Our Minuteman CFB-01 Hopewell Fireback serves a dual purpose. First, it adds beauty and interest to your wood burning or gas log fireplace. Second, it absorbs and then radiates more heat into your room-saving you money and making your fireplace more efficient. Many people aren't familiar with firebacks, but they go back as far as the 1400s at least. Made of cast iron, you mount or set them in the back of your fireplace, behind the blaze. We think you'll notice that your fireplace puts out more heat as a result-and having a fireback will garner questions and compliments from your guests as well because of its visual uniqueness!

This fireback is roughly 3/4" thick and varies in thickness throughout the item. It is only available in this 23" x 23" size.

Qaulity Fireback
The high relief Colonial design dated 1772 is very appealing aesthetic on several levels. The fireback is a heavy solid castiron which is good, but an owner also needs to consider that strength and care needs to be used when handling and placing in the hearth. In addition to absorbing the heat which can be radiated back into the room for better efficiency, the fireback also protects the inside of the hearth from wear and tear. Cast iron feet can also be used to support the fireback in the hearth to some advantage, but not absolutely necessary. I suspect my piece could easily last many decades with minimal deterioration or evidence of wear.

Great for a History Buff
We got this fireback for my dad, who loves US history. Their fireplace is large and doesn’t seem to heat the room like it should. We think the fireback will keep the heat from escaping through the chimney, and radiate it back into the room. Plus, we love the historical reference to Hopewell Furnace, it’s perfect for my history-buff dad!

Produces more Heat
We were surprised by how much larger and heavier the cast iron fireback was. We are very pleased by how much heat it throws off. The heat does cause the fireback to become discolored but it works very well.
