Cooking over an open hearth can be a cozy way to spend a cold night. The Minuteman 18 Inch Swivel Arm Fireplace Crane mounts to the fireplace wall and makes cooking safer and more convenient. It allows you to rotate your cooking pot outwards to check the contents, away from the fire below. These swiveling brackets are pre-drilled for secure mounting to the fireplace wall with your choice of masonry anchoring hardware. Made of wrought iron with decorative leaf and scroll elements, this bracket is a traditional combination of beauty and function, finished in a black powder coating.

What is the overall height of the mounting bracket that attaches to the firebrick? Also, is the mounting hardware (and bracket swivel) robust enough to be able to cook, say, a cast iron pot of bean soup from scratch on?
Per the manufacturer, the mounting bracket is 22 inches in overall height. The recommended weight capacity for the crane is 15 pounds, so it should be able to hold up to most scenarios without a problem.

Very Useful for Cooking
I love the practicality that this hook has to offer. If you have problems with your electricity or gas going out at home, I definitely recommend that you get one of these. Very useful for cooking.

Needs A Drill Bit
The measurements are taken from the start of the arm in the wall all the way to the other end of the hook. Whatever you hang from it is actually center about two inches shorter than that. It is not as flamboyant as in the advertised picture, and it is much sturdier than I was expecting. I ended up using my own fasteners instead of the ones that it came with. My reason was because they didn't include a bit in the package. Since I already had one but the sizes didn't match, I just used my own instead.
