I have a Vermont Castings Defiant 1A, 1975-80. I want to replace the 26 inch oval to round 8 inch pipe it now has with a slip pipe and an 8 inch oval to round connector from the stove. The present pipe is single wall black. Can you help me? I only have 26 inches to play with.

The only oval-to-round adaptor we have for your stove is the DuraVent DVL 8-Inch Vermont Castings Oval to Round Pipe Adaptor
. This adaptor can only be used with DuraVent's DVL double-wall stovepipe and would not be suitable for your application. We apologize for this inconvenience; we recommend having a local sheet metal or machine shop fabricate the necessary adaptor and connector.

Is this the pipe I need to connect to my stove to get started? If not, can u explain to me what I will need using the names of the pipe like slip connector or starter connector and tee connector? Does regular stove pipe connect to all these different pieces?

Answer:In order to start a stovepipe installation, you will first need an appliance adaptor. This acts as the starting collar for the stovepipe and mates it to the stove. You will then proceed with as much rigid pipe as needed, until you get within about 18 to 24 inches of the ceiling. Next, a slip connector, like this item, will be used to connect to a ceiling support box. The slip connector is adjustable and allows some movement in your stovepipe installation. The ceiling support box acts as the starting point for your chimney system and gives support to all the weight of the chimney. If you like, I can assemble a quote for your installation, based on the dimensions of your interior room and the attic space above it.
