Can this brush be used to clean bottom up inserting through the damper that is smaller than the flue. Will inserting from the damper up bend the wires and hamper cleaning a 12 x 12 flue?

Answer:

Because of the fact that there are so many different shapes of damper, it is hard to say for sure that this would be a problem.

It is doubtful that you would harm the brush in any way, as they are made to handle the abuse of cleaning a chimney over many years.

The real issue would be fitting the brush through the damper, as the bristles are very stiff and do not flex much. If the damper opening is narrower than 7", it would be nearly impossible to fit the brush through the opening. It is always your best option to clean the chimney from the top down.
