We just acquired an older Vermont Castings Vigilant parlor stove. The pipe on the stove is oval in size but measures 5 3/4' X 10 1/8" or so. Is this something that's available?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on December 23, 2012
Answer:The adapter you are viewing is designed to work with this line of stove and allows you to make the connection to Simpon's DVL line of double walled stovepipe. The adapter is designed to fit a wide array of Vermont Castings ovals and some final shaping of the adapter must be done for a proper fit.

What is the height measurement of this adapter?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on July 31, 2013
Answer:The adapter is 14 1/2 inches in total height. Installed height will be approximately 1/2 to 1 inch shorter.

Will this vent pipe fit a Heritage II soapstone wood stove? The manual calls for a 5 X 7 oval pipe or a 6" round pipe that can be made into a oval. Inside dimensions of the oval stove flue is 5 1/8" X 7 1/8"; the outside flue dimensions are 5 1/2" X 7 1/2".
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on February 20, 2013
Answer:This product is a double walled 8-inch oval stovepipe and cannot be adjusted to fit a 5 x 7 oval. You would indeed require a 6-inch single wall stovepipe and ovalize the end to fit into the flue outlet of the stove.
Another option would be to have a sheet metal fabricator custom make an oval to fit the opening. This often has to be done on nonstandard ovals.

I need this item to go from 8" oval to 8" round single round pipe to fit into the manufactured chimney unknown manufacturer
By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on July 24, 2012
Answer:Unfortunately, this piece will not meet your needs, as it for use only for mating Vermont Castings oval outlet to DuraVent-manufactured DVL double-wall stovepipe. We recommend having something fabricated at a local machine shop or sheet metal shop for what you need.

Would you have this oval to round adaptor in 6 inches and in single wall?
By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on May 14, 2012
Unfortunately, we do not currently have this same piece available for single-wall stovepipe. We do have one 6 Inch oval-to-round adaptor made by Snap Lock, however, and you can see that item here
. Please note that this piece has a 7" x 6" oval end.

How do I seal the adapter to the stove? Do I use refractory cement only or should I use rope gasket as well?
By Chris C. on February 17, 2015
The use of a furnace cement
would indeed be useful in sealing the gaps from the flue collar atop the stove to the oval to round adapter.

I have a Vermont Castings Defiant Cast Iron Stove copy. It's by an old group from Taiwan. The inside of the oval opening at the top measures approx 6.25" x 10" and tapers down to approx 6.00" to 9.75" at the bottom of the approx 1.25" high throat.
This unit would appear to be close. Can you tell me what the measurements are at the bottom of this unit's insert and also what the actual outside dimensions are at the bottom? My thought is it should fit inside the oval hole and the extra width would cover the small gap around it.

Answer:The 10 inch by 6 1/4 inch measurement is an exact match to the oval outlet that is part of the design to the Vermont Castings wood burning stoves. As such, this adapter will be an exact match. The adapter can also be shaped in the field to allow a bit of flexibility when installing. The outside measurement will always be 5/8 of an inch greater than the inner wall, which would allow the outer wall to fit over the collar of most stoves.

I have an old woodstove, unknown manufacturer. The outlet for the vent is a 6.5" x 5" oval. Do you make an adaptor that might fit?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on December 8, 2011
Answer:Unfortunately, this is a bit of an odd sized adapter that we do not currently carry.
On many older models of stoves, the manufacturer made individual adapters that had to be used with that particular stove. In most cases, it will be necessary to have a sheet metal fabricator build an adapter out of 24 or 22 gauge galvanized steel. They can also include any needed offsets into the adapter.

I have a 1977 Vermont Casting Vigilant stove and the dimensions on the place where the stove pipe connects is 10.5" by 5.5" Will this pipe work?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on July 2, 2012
Answer:Per the manufacturer, this product should indeed fit your Vermont Castings appliance. This is designed to be used with all of their free standing, oval outlet appliances. Both the Defiant and the Vigilant are listed as compatible models.

I just purchased Dura-Vent DVL 8-Inch Vermont Castings Oval to Round Pipe Adaptor - For Wood Burning Stoves - 8870 and I want to connect it to the oval opening of the Viligilent Wood Burning stove.
Can I connect the other end to the chimney that in the wall?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on June 25, 2013
Answer:The output end of the adapter can be connected directly to another section of adjustable 8 inch DVL piping, then can be converted to an approved Simpson Duravent chimney system, with use of an adapter.

I need to adapt an 8 inch oval on an Encore to a 6 inch EX ultra black pipe. Since the stove will not be used for maximum heat output and the existing pipe is one year old I am told that this will be okay. Is this correct?
By Will M. on May 18, 2015
Answer:While slightly over-sizing the flue diameter was quite common recommended with some pre-EPA stoves that were not very efficient, reducing the flue diameter, especially with a thimble or "through the wall" installation, is never recommended and will result in spillage, performance issues and other potentially hazardous situations.

Will this adapter fit the Vermont Castings older model Vigilant wood stove?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 14, 2013
Answer:This adapter is designed to be conformed to the oval outlet of any Vermont Castings wood stove that has the circumference of an 8 inch circle. The circumference of the oval should be approximately 25 1/8 inches. If the oval measures to be this size, the adapter is soft enough that the oval end can be shaped to fit, if necessary.

I need to replace the oval-to-round adapter on an old Defiant wood stove model #1910 (Listed as #000-1855 in owner's guide)
Would the Dura-Vent DVL #8870 fit? If so, do you have the part in other colors? (Such as biscuit?)
on November 9, 2012
Answer:We may be able to get our CPF-69195 to fit your application. However, that all depends on the size of your flue outlet. Our CPF-69195 features only an 8" oval. If you'd like to reply with the dimensions of your oval, I'd be happy to see if we have something that will work. Keep in mind that it will only come in black, though.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

I have an old Dutch west stove. Has an oval connection. I measure 81/2 x 4/1/2 approx. I want to put it in my barn. Does this connector work to transition to 8" pipe
By Kevin E. on October 28, 2011
Answer:This adaptor does work to transition to 8" pipe on the round end. However, it is designed to work specifically with Vermont Castings stoves. It's oval opening measures approximately 5 3/8 x 9 3/4.
