Installing a direct vent chimney through a combustible wall is simple with this Vent Pro vent pipe wall thimble by Dura-Vent. This chimney pipe thimble acts as a wall pass-through and firestop for direct vent piping for vent pipes with a 4 in. inner diameter. This thimble is intended for use with Direct Vent Pro horizontal high wind rain caps and is constructed from .020 in. aluminum inner wall, and a.018 in. galvanized steel outer wall. A framed 10 in. opening is require for installation.

Can I mount it to my 3/4 thick plywood wall?
This thimble can be installed into your 3/4" plywood wall by cutting a 10"x10" square opening. However, please follow the clearance to combustible material instructions for the venting that you are using when installing the facing material.

No. This wall thimble is made for use with DirectVent Pro, which should only be used with direct vent gas fireplaces.

You may insulate around the thimble, but not within the thimble pass through itself (in the small space between the thimble and the 46DVA pipe length that passes through).

Will this wall thimble span 7 and 1/4 inches?
Each half of this thimble measures 4" from end to end. As such, it should work just fine for your application. If additional span is needed, one could fabricate a "bridge" between the two halves with something like aluminum flashing.

At first I thought this is going to look really bad, but finished product is a clean, snug fit in the wall. Holds the pipe firm in the wall, definitely recommend installing with the vent pipe. Make sure you know what your doing because you don;t want to mess this up.
