I need a rug to place in front of a pellet stove. Occasionally embers fall onto the floor, so we need something flame retardant. Will this rug work?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on September 17, 2013
Answer:Olefin is a flame resistant fiber that does an excellent job of protecting combustible surfaces. As such, this rug would be the perfect item to shield the floor from damaging embers.

Is this Orian contemporary Twiggy Frappe Olefin hearth rug fire resistant? Will it protect my floor?
By Will M. on October 14, 2015
Answer:Olefin is a flame resistant fiber that does an excellent job of protecting combustible surfaces from embers. Please note that it is not intended as floor protection for wood stoves, which would require a UL 1618 listed stove board, but it does offer protection from sparks and embers.

I have an unusual curved brick edge around my wood burning stove. Can this rug be trimmed to fit the curve of the brick edge?
By Kevin E. - NFI Certified Specialist on August 26, 2013
Answer:Theoretically, yes. This rug could be trimmed to a specific shape, However, doing so would remove the factory hemmed edge and would likely lead to unraveling of the rug. Unfortunately, we are unable to custom produce this items to match your need.

We have a wood laminate floor with a high sheen. Have you had any problems with scratching or discoloration? If so what do you you recommend for an under laminate to protect the floor?
By Chris on January 10, 2014
Over time, the polypropylene backing can cause very fine scratches to the laminate flooring. I would suggest a rug pad such as the Goods of the Woods Non Skid Pad for Hearth Rugs - 5 Foot x 3 Foot
. This pad is larger than the rug, making it possible to trim it down to the exact size of the rug to avoid any damage to the flooring.
