I am looking at DFS 36 ventfree fireplace and have a few questions. 1. The accessory listing on the Monessen website refers to a remote control that can switch the fireplace on/off , adjust blower speed and flame height. It also refers to a wireless wall mount programmable thermostat. My question are, does the programmable wall mount thermostat have the same functionality? If not, can they be used separately and/or together?
2. The guide also refers to a forced air blower kit. How does that differ from the installed blower?
3. The installation manual refers to an outside air combustion assembly. What does this do for/ how does this effect the fireplace performance? Under what situations is this required. I am looking to buy the right things for a proper installation asap, so I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Answer:
Please allow us to gather all of this information for you by contacting the manufacturer directly regarding the remote control options. The information we have does not indicate you can adjust the flame height with a remote control - only the knob on the unit itself controls that. However, we will find out for sure from the manufacturer for you. As for your other questions:
2. The blower installed is the same one referred to there, so no difference.
3. A fresh air kit will help the performance of this unit if you are installing it into a smaller or cramped room. If you are installing it in a large, open room, it is not necessary.
We will be in touch regarding the remote tomorrow. Thank you.By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on March 22, 2012
Answer:
Mr. Patel,
After speaking directly to the manufacturer, I have a little more information for you and a correction.
First, there is a remote that will work for this unit that will control the blower speed and operate the unit with a thermostat, but there are no provisions for variable flame height. That must be controlled with the knob on the unit itself. Please see the RCSTEBA remote
here .
The wall thermostat for this model will not control the blower at all, so the RCSTEBA sounds like your best bet.
As for the blower, the model included with this fireplace is the BLOTMC.
Finally, the manufacturer does not recommend using the combustion air kit. The provisions for this are included only because of a code that they had to meet, but it will not improve performance in any way, and, moreover, it could actually hinder it as the vent cannot be closed and you would basically have an open window from outside into your fireplace.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
