Susan from New Jersey asked:
Can an insert be used for building a gas fireplace from scratch ? Or is it only for a replacement for an existing fireplace.
Can an insert be used for building a gas fireplace from scratch ? Or is it only for a replacement for an existing fireplace.
Any hearth system advertised as an "insert" would be designed for installation into an existing masonry or prefabricated wood burning fireplace. If you have an existing wood burning fireplace and corresponding chimney as described, and after you (or I) have confirmed this insert would fit into the fireplace opening per the manufacturer's minimum opening requirements, this product would be an option. If you are looking for something that may be framed out and finished, you will need to search for a fireplace.

Can you operate this unit without using the blower? If so how does that change the heating quantity?
Can you operate this unit without using the blower? If so how does that change the heating quantity?
Yes, this insert can be operated without the blower. Without the blower, the amount of heat produced remains the same, but the heated air is not forced out into the room and therefore it will take a bit longer for the warmth to encompass the room and it will not be as effective heating adjacent rooms.
