Can this direct vent gas fireplace be installed directly into an existing fireplace as long as the venting is installed correctly?
So long as the venting is installed properly and your opening is large enough to accommodate the unit, there should not be an issue.

Does this model have an adjustable flame and a battery back up?
This model does indeed have a 50% flame height adjustment as one of its standard features. The unit does not have a battery backup, as it is a standing pilot model and generates its own electricity. The unit will work in the event of a power outage without any other backup system needed.

This unit can indeed be placed into a corner. When installed in this configuration and placed as close to the wall as possible, the corner wall would measure 51 1/8 inches across.
