Can you purchase this fireplace without the glass?

Answer:
No, this fireplace must be purchased with the glass panel front. This is due to the nature of direct vent fireplaces; they are sealed off from the room and use only outside air for combustion and vent exhaust directly back outside through a coaxial piping system (pipe-within-a-pipe). Direct vent units must always be operated with a fixed glass panel in place.

Even in a northerly climate, the unit will be able to heat your space easily. The height of the ceilings in the area will of course make a difference, but the unit would be able to heat an area of about 1,100 square feet in your location.
