    Customer Questions & Answers
By john from dowagiac,mi on December 3, 2011
Can you hang a TV over this?
By Kevin E. - Fireplace Specialist on December 5, 2011

    Answer:
Indeed, you may. However, it should be placed at least 18" above the top of this fireplace.

By Tony from Arroyo Grande, CA on May 24, 2015
Do all vent-free fireplace units come with a glass face? Is there a screen over the glass, per the barrier code? If doors are chose, do they have outside burn barrier screens? Do es the screen need to cover any metal, or only the glass? Is there any reason this Empire Vail premium vent-free gas fireplace cannot be used on a covered patio? What term do you use to indicate that there is no constant burning pilot light?
    By Brennan W. on May 26, 2015

    Answer:
This unit is vent free, and as such has no glass on the front. The doors listed as accessories will be entirely decorative and will be screened. A unit with a glass front that would require a barrier screen would be a decorative unit. We would not suggest using this fireplace under a covered patio as it is not rated for outdoor use. Electronic ignition is indeed the term used to indicate that a unit does not have a standing pilot.

    Do you ship to Canada?
    By Will M. on June 28, 2016

    Answer:
While we will ship to Canada, ventless gas hearth systems are not allowed in Canada.

By David from Ruidoso, NM on August 6, 2016
Can the vent-free Empire Vail Premium natural gas fireplace be used at a high altitude?
By eFireplaceStore on August 8, 2016

    Answer:
This heater works best at altitudes of 4,500 feet or lower. The absolute maximum is 6,000 feet. Above 6,000 feet, you will experience random pilot outages and the unit will not burn as cleanly as designed.

By Twyla from GA on May 26, 2016
Would this work on a screened porch?
    By Will M. on May 26, 2016

    Answer:
Unfortunately, no. Any hearth system that will come into contact with moisture from the outdoors has to be tested and listed for outdoor applications and these systems are constructed of stainless steel. Please view our selection of Patio Fireplaces to view options that are safe to install on a screen porch.

What are the dimensions of the Empire Vail 3 piece trim kit?
    By Will M. on March 29, 2016

    Answer:
Each trim section has a width of 2 1/2 inches and will only attach to certain 36" Empire fireplaces.

By Ron from Kannapolis, NC on March 28, 2016
What model is the log set included with the this fireplace?
    By Will M. on March 29, 2016

    Answer:
The LS-30-1 EF 30" ceramic fiber log set is manufactured by Empire and made specifically for the 36" Vail ventless fireplace.

By John from Rector, AR on January 16, 2016
I have this Empire Vail Premium vent-free fireplace in natural gas. We have moved and I need to use it with propane gas now. What do you sell that I can put in my fireplace so I can use it with propane?
By eFireplaceStore on January 18, 2016

    Answer:
Unfortunately, this manufacturer does not offer a conversion kit to switch between fuels. Because of the potential dangers of an improperly converted vent free fireplace, the manufacturer certifies the unit to burn only on the gas it was originally engineered for. I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

By Ron from Kannapolis,NC on March 29, 2016
The description of this Empire gas fireplace states "It is operated with Remote Ready Controls, allowing you, your family members, your friends, or your guests the chance to adjust the heating settings without needing to walk over to the unit to do so." What style of remote is available for use with this unit?
    By Will M. on March 29, 2016

    Answer:
Adding the Empire Battery-Operated Remote with Thermostat Control - FRBTC will turn the burner flame off and on according to the temperature set with the remote transmitter.

By Ryan from Pittsburgh, PA on February 10, 2015
Does this fireplace include the gas logs or is it just the box?
By eFireplaceStore on February 10, 2015

    Answer:
This unit does indeed come with the log set included.

By Jeff from NM on March 25, 2017
Can you tell me the difference between VFP36BP30LN and VFP36BP70LN? Also, the 70LN states that it comes with a 5 piece log set, then says it does not come with a log set.
    By Tyler M. on March 27, 2017

    Answer:
Both models include a log set, but one of the models (the -70LN) requires you to choose between one or two options. The difference between the -30 and -70 is the ignition type. The -30 model has a millivolt/standing pilot ignition, whereas the -70 model is an electronic ignition/intermittent pilot system.

Does this fireplace include the brick liner?
By eFireplaceStore on October 1, 2014

    Answer:
The liner for this model is an accessory. Either the aged brick or stacked limestone liners can be installed, which are seen in the accessory section on the item page.

Everything We Wanted in a Fireplace

We've had our Empire Vent-free fireplace approximately 2 months now and it has done exactly what we needed it to do. We bought it as back-up heat for our basement in case the power ever went out and we were gone. So far, that has not happened, but we just got back from vacation and set it on low as back-up for our furnace. While we were gone, temps dropped to -18 below zero and 14 inches of snow was on the ground when we arrived home. Our home was toasty warm upstairs and downstairs. Kudos to our Empire fireplace.

We ordered our fireplace on a Thursday and it was delivered the following Tuesday. The delivery man was very helpful in assisting us with it. When it was unpacked, we were more than pleased at the appearance of the fireplace. When it was all together and hooked up, we turned it on and it was just like being in a cabin in the woods with a real fireplace - so cozy. We are very pleased with the quality and the service from this seller. I would definitely recommend it my friends.

This unit is doing a great job for the space we installed it in. The room is 20 x 30 and heats up nicely. The flames are nice looking and the fire is quiet. The fan included does not blow as well as others I have seen and is also a little noisy, but I've seen other units that the blowers are much more noisy than this unit. Installed the unit ourselves without any issues. The directions could be written a little better.
    Pros:
Stock unit looks good and works well Flames look nice
    Cons:
Noisy blower Accessories look cheap so we did not install the optional doors The blower is temperature activated. I did not see that in the directions so when we first started the unit we thought it eas not working.

Looks great and works very well.

Well made unit. Installation is straight forward. Could use some better instructions for the burner unit regarding remote control options. Looks great when finished with optional trim kits.
    Pros:
Easy install, looks great, see through design.
    Cons:
Installation of extruded outer frame is difficult and wimpy using supplied hardware. I drilled and countersunk some holes in the frame and used sheet metal screws to attach firmly.
