I have an INSTA-FLAME fireplace model# DVS2RP-1 and we just changed over to natural gas from propane. However, INSTA-FLAME (CFM INC) is no longer around. What are my options of getting my fireplace to work with natural gas?
on November 9, 2012
Answer:CFM is no longer in business - their holdings were taken over by the Majestic corporation. Unfortunately, per Majestic there is no longer a conversion kit available for your Insta-Flame fireplace. Fuel conversion can simply not be done. I apologize for the bad news.

Can I convert my Majestic NVBR36RN natural gas fireplace to propane?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on December 5, 2013
Answer:These units are convertible, but the correct kit will depend on the gas valve that the unit has installed. This model used either a SIT 820 or a Honeywell gas valve. The brand name should be on the valve itself. Please advise at your convenience.

By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on July 2, 2013
Unfortunately, we are not a dealer for the master flame series of logs. As such, we do not carry the appropriate conversion kit. I recommend visiting the manufacturer website to locate a dealer that may offer the conversion kit. The manufacturer website can be accessed here

I have an Majestic MR42 model - is there any way to add a blower to this Fireplace?
By eFireplaceStore on May 27, 2014
Answer:Unfortunately, the MR42 was unable to use a circulating fan. The MRC42 had provisions for such an accessory, but the MR42 was a smooth faced model that did not have the ducting necessary.

We have a gas FP but the gas line coming from the meter to the house has a leak. We want to convert it to propane use but don't know what we need to do so. The FP has a chimney stack on the roof for venting. We can't find anyone in our area that has knowledge of gas FP installations. We just want to be able to use propane, as getting the gas line repaired is in excess of 900.
By Kevin E. - Fireplace Specialist on January 29, 2013
Retrofitting this fireplace for LP use may indeed be a suitable solution. The log set will need to be converted to accept LP. As the LP tank cannot be stored indoors, a gas line will need to be run from your new LP tank to the fireplace. A certified professional should be hired to complete this job. Please visit the National Fireplace Institute
site to locate a certified hearth professional in your area. Once NFI's site, click Public to search for a professional using your ZIP code.

I need a conversion kit for a Majestic UVC 36RN. What would you suggest?
By eFireplaceStore on October 6, 2014
Answer:My apologizes, but conversion kits are not available for this model. Being a vent free heater, the manufacturer produced it to be burned only with natural gas. Conversion of a vent free appliance can be potentially dangerous and as such, most manufacturers did not produce field conversion kits for them.

I have a wood burning fireplace and would like to convert to a propane gas fireplace. Any ideas?
By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on January 4, 2013
You have a few options to consider, depending on if your fireplace is a brick/masonry unit or a manufactured (metal) model. If you prefer, please reply with your full fireplace dimensions (front width, rear width, opening height, depth, etc.), as well has how you want to control the unit (on/off remote, variable flame remote, wall switch or manual), and we will be happy to offer some recommendations. I have a Napoleon NZ26 wood burning fireplace (purchased 2004) and would like to convert to a propane gas fireplace. Any ideas?
By Chris C. on July 14, 2014
Answer:Unfortunately, the manufacturer strongly recommends against the installation of a vented or ventless gas log set into the NZ-26. Additionally, there are no knock outs to run a gas line into the firebox itself.

I have a Monessen DLX24 propane log set that I want to convert to gas, what do I need to buy? I also have a vantage hearth VD1824PR that I want to convert to gas.
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on March 8, 2013
Answer:Because of the potential dangers that can occur from incorrect conversion, most manufacturers do not allow field conversion or produce conversion kits for vent free appliances.
I have checked the manufacturer information for both of these vent free log sets and neither of them allow for conversion. The units would need to be replaced with a natural gas version.

I have a gas fireplace in which I burn wood. The pipe along the bottom under the rack that feeds gas across the bottom is bent. Can I just unscrew it (with the gas turned off by the key) and straighten it out?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on April 8, 2014
Answer:Most gas log lighters are made of cast iron, which is difficult to straighten if it becomes bent. You can attempt to straighten it, but it will need to be heated at the bend and very carefully straightened to avoid cracking the material.

We have propane heating stoves that we wish to convert from electric start to manual start (when the power goes off). Is there such a thing?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on December 10, 2013
Answer:It is not common for manufacturers to offer modular pilot kits that would allow you to switch from electronic ignition to manual ignition, but there are some products on the market. I would need to know the manufacturer name and model number of the stoves to check further.

I am trying to find a conversion kit for a 18" natural gas logs set from the Charleston forge model ne'er HDVDR18W. I want to make them propane. Do you carry these?
By eFireplaceStore on October 14, 2014
Answer:Unfortunately, a conversion kit was not manufactured for this log set, as it is an unvented product. Due to the potential dangers of an incorrectly converted vent free set, manufacturers only test and list them for use with the fuel they were originally orificed for.
By Krista from Ohio on November 23, 2013
How can I determine the manufacturer of my ventfree gas fireplace?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on November 24, 2013
Answer:Vent free fireplaces are shipped from the manufacturer with production and certification plates, which are usually chained or cabled to the gas valve in the bottom of the unit. On the production plate will be the manufacturer name and model number. Some manufacturers will also have a sticker attached to the side of the unit as well, either inside the firebox or in the bottom area near the gas valve.

I have a Vermont castings LP log set and I just had natural gas run to my house. Can I get a conversion kit?
By eFireplaceStore on August 20, 2014
Answer:Unfortunately, a conversion kit is not offered for this log assembly. Because the set is unvented, it is certified for use only with the original fuel it was built for. Because an improperly converted vent free appliance can be dangerous, most manufacturers do not offer conversion kits for them. I apologize for the inconvenience.

By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on December 11, 2012

I have a DVRT36 RP fireplace manufactured by Majestic. It is currently running on propane and we will be converting our home to a natural gas service. Which conversion kit do I need? It seems that most kits are to convert from natural gas to propane but I need to convert the other way.
By eFireplaceStore on October 9, 2014
Answer:Unfortunately, the manufacturer no longer carries conversion kits for this particular model. This unit used a certain Honeywell or SIT valve system, which is no longer in production. The conversion kits where out of stock by early 2013. I apologize that I can no longer obtain the parts.

I have a TEMCO fireplace made by CFM Corporation, model 36TDVN direct vent top. It is a natural gas fireplace, but I have propane. Do you have a converter that I can use to take it from natural gas to propane?
on November 9, 2012
Answer:It is a bit difficult to find replacement components for the Temco line. This is due to their going out of production several years ago. However, their parent company, CFM, was absorbed by Majestic. As such, there is a chance that there is still a conversion kit available at Majestic for your Temco fireplace. I will contact our supplier and see what may still be available.
I will be in touch with what they report. Please let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.
