I'm installing an outside wall chimney with class a tee and wall thimble. Can I use the FMI Class A chimney parts? Your web site explains, the FMI pipe is for FMI fireplaces only. Can I incorporate FMI chimney pipe in my installation?

No, FMI pipe can indeed only be used with an appropriately-listed FMI or Vantage Hearth woodburning fireplace. You would need another brand of class A chimney pipe, such as DuraTech or SuperPro. Please fill out our Chimney Pipe Design & Quote Form to receive a full quote for your application.

I have an older 8-inch air-cooled triple pipe. I need to install an elbow to reposition the pipe so it won't interfere with the roof valley (outside pipe diameter is 13 inches.) The pipe has an UL label listing Preway products—the pipe top cap says: Preway appliance chimney part 390G, PREWAY type 8A chimney part Y14273P. The appliance being vented is a heat box that I made and have used for 25 yrs: we’re remodeling and need to relocate the pipe enough to not interfere with a roof valley. Any solutions?

Preway went out of business sometime ago. Their chimney piping used diameters that are slightly different from anything that is currently made, so the products I carry will not offer an exact fit. However, it was at one time a fairly large company, so parts are still out there for them. The other option would be to purchase an elbow of similar diameter and have custom adapters made for it to fit.

I'm installing a wood-fired oven. Will this work with the high temperatures?
By Tyler M. on June 30, 2014
No, this chimney pipe is only suitable for use with select manufactured woodburning fireplaces made by FMI, Vantage Hearth, DESA or Vanguard. We do carry class A chimney pipe that can vent your oven, however. For a full quote, please fill out our Chimney Pipe Design & Quote Form.

What is the difference between an FMI B36 and a B36I fireplace? Is there any particular pipe I should use with an FMI B36 unit, such as an 8" ID outlet? Or will any of the pipe in your listing work?
By Chris on March 11, 2014
There are no differences between the B36 and the B36L other than the B36L utilizes louvers at the top and bottom of the face of the unit, whereas the B36 is a radiant or smooth face design containing no louvers for air circulation. Both of these units use the same 8DM venting components manufactured by FMI. You can view those components by clicking the "Venting Components" tab here.
This rigid chimney pipe is designed especially for venting a FMI wood-burning fireplace. The parts feature an insulated steel double wall that allows a 2" clearance to combustibles. Several lengths are available, even up to 48" to reduce the number of connections necessary during the installation. All parts necessary for a complete installation can be found below. These include elbows, firestops, and thimbles as well as the proper terminal at the roof that will protect your chimney from the elements.
