If your heating appliance has a worn gasket, it may no longer have the airtight seal required for its most efficient and safe operation. Replacing the gasket is not difficult, and this gasket tape by Perkins could be used most effectively. It is made of fiberglass and impregnated with graphite for superior abrasion resistance. The black color blends in perfectly with most stoves and it will not easily gum up with creosote. The tape is available in a variety of sizes to fit most stoves.

Indeed, gasket tape does require gasket cement.
