You don't often find true versatility combined with great function, but that's exactly what you get with the Pro Com Black Free-Standing Vent-Free P Stove. This black, free-standing stove gives you the freedom to generate heat almost anywhere in your home using either natural gas or propane fuel.

The beauty of the P Stove is that it is much lighter than traditional cast-iron stoves. If you want a lot of power, though, without a big, bulky stove that you can't move around without a team of powerlifters, then the Pro Com Black Free-Standing Vent-Free P Stove is the perfect product for you.

FINALLY! - Affordable, vent-free heater that looks great & functions perfectly
October 10, 2013
I purchased this unit to heat my cabin which is about 900 square feet - This replaced an older unit that I had that worked perfectly but when I switched from propane to natural gas, I could not convert the old one over - I was looking for a unit that not only looked good but would give me the ability to switch freely between propane & natural gas - This unit fit the bill on both accounts - I opted to purchase the additional fan which I highly recommend also as it pushes the heat quite nicely & is extremely quiet - You can run it continuously or set to AUTO - I have used this unit for about a month now & I am extremely satisfied - I would highly recommend this stove to anyone that I know - Thanks for the simple yet amazing & affordable product.
- Heats my 900 square foot cabin perfectly - Lightweight & easy to hook up - Looks good in any room - Vent Free
- Fan was a little tricky to hook up as the instructions were a little vague - but by no means super difficult or a deal breaker - It would be nice to see the fan included and already installed as an option - I do not really see the purpose in not having the fan for heating - I would really not call these Cons, just observations that I had during installation

Why is this model so cheap?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 18, 2012

The relatively low cost of this unit is attributed mainly to its construction. It is manufactured mostly from lighter gauge sheet metal as opposed to plate steel or cast iron. This unit also has a lower BTU output than other models of vent free stove.

However, if you are looking to add heat to a small amount of space effectively, this item would be a great low-cost option.

Are vent-free stoves legal in Massachusetts?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on September 30, 2013

Vent free appliances are newly legal for use in the state of Massachusetts. However, some municipalities still do not allow their installation. As such, I highly recommend contacting your local code enforcement office to be certain that a vent free appliance can be used without an issue.

Does this come with a remote for easy lighting?
By Dawn H. on September 12, 2013

No, it does not come with a remote.

By Melissa from Stamford, CT on May 9, 2012
How does the gas line attach to this unit? I have never had gas heat in any of my homes. We are usually stuck with oil but I am converting a barn and would like to use gas/propane for heat and stove. What type of gas does this use and what is the difference price wise for natural gas vs propane?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on May 9, 2012

This particular stove is a dual fuel appliance, meaning that is already has natural gas and propane orifices already installed. You will simply need to connect your incoming flexible gas line to the corresponding connector on the back of the stove, using a 3/8" N.P.T. fitting.

Historically, natural gas is always the cheaper fuel, with propane running nearly 3 times as much currently. However, if you do not have natural gas available from your local utility supplier, propane may be your only option.

Is this stove legal in California?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on September 21, 2012

Vent free appliances are currently not legal for use in the state of California. However, I would recommend that you check with local code enforcement officials. A few areas will accept their use or have no bylaws that maintain they cannot be used.

Is there any heat vented out of the top of the unit?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 16, 2013

The top of this stove is solid stamped steel. All of the heat interchange occurs through the screened openings on the front and sides of the unit.

By Mike from Shreveport, LA on January 3, 2013
Does this stove have a solid top? The picture in the manual shows what might an opening on top (slot).
By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on January 7, 2013

Per the manufacturer, the picture in the owner's manual is accurate. There is a vent/grate slot on the top of this stove as pictured in the owner's manual.

Will this stove work at 6,000 ft elevation? If not, is there a high altitude kit?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on May 11, 2012

Per the manufacturer, 4,500 feet is indeed the limitation of this heater. They do not manufacture any sort of high altitude kit that would allow for use at a 6,000 foot elevation. It would be necessary to utilize a vented unit that is capable of the higher altitude.

How much space will it heat?

This unit has a BTU rating of up to 23,000, which means it can sufficiently heat up to approximately 850 square feet.

By Sue on November 9, 2012
Does this unit heat a room if the power goes out? Is there a battery backup, or can it be lit with a pilot light?
on November 9, 2012

This stove, the ProCom Black Free-Standing Vent-Free P Stove (Item # FSD-PCSD25T), does not require electricity to operate. It has a standing pilot that is lit by an AAA battery powered igniter. For more information on the way this unit operates, please see the owner's manual at the following link: ProCom Fireplace Manual Lighting instructions are located on page 20. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

By Kristine from Woodbridge, VA on October 28, 2013
This runs without electricity, but in the picture I see a power cord. What is its function?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 29, 2013

The thumbnail pictures were sent in by a customer that purchased and installed the accessory blower system with the unit. While the unit itself operates without power, the blower will of course require a 120 volt power source.

By Kim from Vt on April 8, 2013
I understand that a remote control does not come with the unit, but is one available?
By Tyler M. - NFI Certified Specialist on April 9, 2013

No, there is no remote control option for this stove. It features a built-in manually-controlled thermostat (with 5 heat settings, not a set temperature) for operation. However there is a different version of this stove available with a remote control for operation. This is a special order item, so you would need to contact us directly.

Is this unit legal in Oregon?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 25, 2013

Vent free appliances are legal in the state of Oregon. As always, it is a good idea to check with you local code office, if your town maintains one. Some municipalities codes will differ from the state.

By Sheila from Oregon on October 25, 2013
Can I order this with a blower fan already installed?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 25, 2013

The blower for this unit is always shipped separately. The fan assembly can be damaged if it is shipped installed, as such, it is always packaged in a separate box and must be installed on site.

By Anna Nash from Vista, CA on March 17, 2012
Can you use the usual fireplace logs that use natural gas with this item? Is it cheaper if I use my gas logs and only buy the fireplace? Can you use this stove in a manufactured home?
By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on March 19, 2012

This stove comes with a set of gas logs, and there is no option to buy the stove only and install your own logs.

You may indeed install this stove in a manufactured home. Please see this from the owner's manual:
"This appliance may be installed in an aftermarket, permanently located manufactured (mobile) home, where not prohibited by local codes."

The page says this stove is lighter in weight than traditional cast iron - what material is it made of?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on April 26, 2012

Rather than cast iron, the manufacturer went with a heavy gauge formed steel. This gives the stove a more clean, modern look and offers substantial weight savings over iron models.

By Jackie from Healdsburg, CA on October 25, 2013
Can this be used in a large bedroom that is approximately 550 sq feet? Also, can it be shipped to California?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 25, 2013

Unfortunately, the answer to both questions is no. A vent free heater with a BTU output over 10,000 cannot be installed in a bedroom and vent free appliances are illegal for use in CA. A direct vent fireplace, heater, or stove would be you next best option. A small direct vent stove, such as the Napoleon Arlington Direct Vent Cast Iron Gas Stove would be a good choice for the size of the bedroom. The unit can be vented vertically or horizontally for maximum versatility.

By Kathy from Lovington, New Mexico on December 28, 2013
Can I use this stove without the remote?
By Tyler M. - NFI Certified Specialist on December 30, 2013

This stove actually does not include a remote control and it is only manually controlled.
