Why is the 17" kit so much more expensive than the 24" kit?

Is the right kit for me, in terms of size (17") and orientation (straight vs angled)? I have a 48" Majestic fireplace, circa 1992, and am in the process of removing the Real Fyre gas log setup in order to go back to burning real wood (please see photos (note: burner pan and grate have since been removed; flex connector remains connected to gas line via elbow)).
Also, what are the advantages/disadvantages (besides cost) of using a stainless log lighter vs the traditional black pipe? In the event someone wishes to re install gas logs, would/could this log lighter stay in place serving as the burner (I assume so, based on the product name)? If so, what, if any, modifications would be needed?

Answer:Thank you for the supplied photos. Based on the setup you have, this will indeed be the best style of log lighter for your application. Stainless steel log lighters are primarily intended for outdoor applications, where the constant subjection to humid air will cause an iron log lighter to corrode and break down relatively quickly. They can certainly be used for an indoor application as well, as this will ensure decades of dependable service.
This product can be used as a primitive match light burner of sorts for gas logs, but the flame height will not be as great as the original burner, nor will the flame pattern be as realistic. The product is made to light wood logs and as such, there is not any real though given to flame presentation.

Are there holes on both sides or only on top?
By Tyler M. - NFI Certified Specialist on July 18, 2013
Answer:There are only holes on top of this log lighter, as it is meant to be placed facing up underneath a grate to aid in the burning of firewood.
