This fireplace grate is made of cast iron for durability and stability under the load of wood. It elevates the wood from the hearth to create a good draft that ensures a hot burn. The grate is made of one piece with a flat bottom and 4" legs. The raised edges will make sure to keep partially burned logs and hot cinders in the fire until they are completely consumed. The dimensions of the grate are front width 19.5", rear width 16", depth 15", and height 7". The item weighs 20 lbs.

How much clearance is there between the floor and the bottom of the basket?
This grate offers a 4 inch leg height, with the top of the legs being flush with the bottom of the grate basket. As such, the 4 inch height will be the maximum clearance it allows.

Best fireplace grate we've ever used
This was a gift for my husband, who is the "keeper of the fire" at our house. We love having wood fires but lately had put off enjoying them because the grate we had, while sturdy, allowed partially-burned wood to fall through to the fireplace floor, basically wasting them. There was a lot of stoking and rearranging involved and it just didn't seem worth it. Enter the G800 series grate, which lives up to every positive review I read about it. Super strong cast iron, there's no chance of warping or burning through (unless less expensive grates we've had) and the flat bottom design allows the right air flow but keeps the wood pieces where they belong. The result? Longer-burning fires that require a LOT less maintenance throughout. My husband absolutely loves it. What a great purchase!

Very strong cast iron, design is ideal for maximizing burn efficiency.
Cons
Delivery charge was almost as much as the sale price, but given the weight of the item, I guess that's too be expected.
