The only statewide restrictions we are aware of pertain to ventless gas hearth and standing pilot or millivolt systems. As this model is direct vent and provides electronic spark ignition of the pilot and burner, there should be no reason this model would not be allowed in the state of California. As a rule of thumb, it is always best to check with local code enforcement as they will always have the final say, but I am unaware of any state, county or municipality that prohibits the installation of any non-standing pilot, direct vent fireplace.
