Metal Fireplace Mantels
Metal fireplace mantels may not be the most common type of fireplace surround, but we think that rarity makes them all the more appealing. The unique properties of metal allow these mantels to have designs that you simply can't find on comparable wood models. And because metal is inherently durable, metal fireplace mantels tend to hold up extremely well over time.

I see the JIG Mayfair mantel comes in the full polish finish, but I'm wondering if it can be painted. Could you tell me if there's any reason why it couldn't or shouldn't be painted?
If it is OK to paint, do you recommend any specific products or processes?

Answer:
Because of the way this unit is finished, the manufacturer does not recommend painting it. In order to get paint to adhere to the surround, it would require roughing the surface of the finish with an abrasive material. Because of the intricate nature of the casting, this would not be feasible.
