Can a non-combustable material be applied over a combustable material above a horizontal running pipe to reduce the 3 in clearance to 1 inch? If so, what type would be allowed?
By Will M. on September 15, 2016
Answer:Clearance reduction cannot be achieved as the vent clearances listed from the top, bottom and sides are not just to prevent heat transfer. These spaces must remain free to prevent overheating of the vent system itself, so no combustible or noncombustible material can fill these spaces.
