How to Choose the Right Venting for Your Fireplace

    Customer Questions & Answers
By Howard from Indianapolis, IN on December 5, 2013
I just purchased gas logs for a Fireplace and am looking at this type of unit for another room. I have seen some of these types of units with a thermostat. Does this unit have one? Or do any other models have one?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on December 5, 2013

    Answer:
The unit does not come with a thermostat as standard, but the gas valve is configured to use either a thermostatic remote or a wall thermostat. The items that could be used are the Napoleon Wall-Mounted Digital Thermostat or the Napoleon F60 Hand-Held Thermostatic Remote Control with Digital Screen.

Can you vent this or any Napoleon vent free stove? I'm not sure about the idea of carbon monoxide issues that could be associated with a vent free set up.
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on October 8, 2013

    Answer:
Because the Napoleon vent free stoves are designed without any sort of flue collar, there is not a way to effectively vent them. While it is true that even a properly maintained stove will release trace amounts of CO, the amount is no more than you are exposed to in traffic or when burning an open fire. If the stove is properly cleaned on a yearly schedule and set up properly, there is not a danger of using the appliance.

What is the realistic square footage this stove will effectively heat using LP?
    By Will M. on February 12, 2016

    Answer:
With standard 8' ceilings, 30,000 Btus will heat roughly 857 square feet.

By Peter from Hartford, CT on October 23, 2012
How do I get a more yellow flame? It's currently an 80% bluish color.

By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on October 23, 2012

    Answer:
If the flame color is still blue after 15-30 minutes of operation, you may need to call a qualified technician to service the unit. Information regarding this model's orientation and adjustment can be found on page 16 of the owner's manual.

By John from VA on October 9, 2016
Is there a blower on this, and if not, can one be fitted to the product?
    By Will M. on October 10, 2016

    Answer:
An optional blower is offered under "Popular Accessories for This Item," on the product page for the stove in question.

After years of use, the pilot will not stay lit. What could be the problem? I have plenty of propane, the tanks are on an auto fill program.
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on February 5, 2013

    Answer:
It is possible that the gas valve and pilot assembly require service. If the unit has not been cleaned recently, I highly recommend having a technician service the unit. The pilot assembly, as well as the air shutter and burner orifice, require a yearly cleaning. Dust and lint can build up in these components, causing pilot failure and lower BTU output.

If the unit has been cleaned recently, the pilot assembly is likely defective. This is the most common part to fail and requires periodic replacement.

What is the weight of this Napoleon GVFS60 cast iron stove and how many gallons of propane will it burn at the highest BTU setting?
    By Will M. on June 2, 2015

    Answer:
On it's highest BTU setting, this appliance will use .33 gallons of propane per hour. The weight of the stove is 100 lbs.

If I purchase this stove it will be on a hard wood floor. Do I need some type of protection for my floor?
By Kevin E. - Fireplace Specialist on May 1, 2012

    Answer:
As long as the stove is installed on a wood floor, it will not need any floor protection. This information can be found on page 6 of the installation manual.
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on May 1, 2012

    Answer:
Napoleon does not require any floor protection for this stove. They only specify clearances to adjacent walls, which are covered in detail in the product manual.

I would recommend this item to a friend.
Let me say that the stove is just what I expected when I made the purchase, but on a whole, I am quite disappointed with the fan. Not only is it ineffective for the most part but also I do not think I have ever seen or heard it work.
