The Pearl Mantels The Vance Fireplace Hearth Mantel - No. 160 says several things about your home. It says that you realize the importance of your hearth and fireplace - how they contribute to your home's decor. It says that you care about style and quality in your mantel just as much as you care about those qualities in the rest of your house. And it says, perhaps most importantly, that you have the sense to know that you don't have to spend a fortune to furnish your fireplace with a high-quality mantel of superior craftsmanship.

Just like other Pearl Mantels offerings, the Pearl Mantels The Vance Fireplace Hearth Mantel - No. 160 is hand crafted out of an Asian hardwood called Choi. This light-colored, tight-grained wood is similar in appearance and texture to American White Oak and creates a warm, rich mantel appearance. The wood easily accepts any paint or stain and can be matched to any home's interior.

Homeowners, you spend a lot of time around the fireplace with friends and family. Make it a place that is as beautiful and inviting as possible. You'll never question the fact that you got the best mantel available at the best price once you and your loved ones spend your first evening enjoying your new Pearl Mantels The Vance Fireplace Hearth Mantel - No. 160.

Is the picture shown the distressed medium oak finish? If not, can you send me a picture? What is the top coat?
    By Dawn H. on February 18, 2013

    Answer:
The picture shows the unfinished mantle.

By marianne from Tacoma WA on July 13, 2012
The overall height of this surround is taller than we would like. If the legs detach, is it possible to cut down the height without disturbing the base? We would be ordering a paint-able finish, so might some cutting to shorten legs be possible and hidden by filling and painting?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on July 13, 2012

    Answer:
It is indeed possible to cut the legs down on this particular model. However, the plinth blocks at the base of each leg are attached to the leg itself, so you would be cutting the block to shorten the mantel height. As a result, you will only be able to shorten the mantel by a few inches, unless you cut the leg above the block, then attach it to the blocks and fill the cut.

What is the width of the legs?

By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on September 23, 2013

    Answer:
Per the manufacturer, each leg is approximately 7 inches in width, measured above the plinth blocks.

By Steve from Buffalo, NY on September 23, 2014
Is the back side of the surround the same wood? Reason for asking is for testing of stain color.
By eFireplaceStore on September 23, 2014

    Answer:
Some of the corner braces are a different species of wood, but the primary leg sections and breastboard are indeed the same.

By Omar from Troy, MI on October 19, 2014
What can we do if we want this mantel stained a different color?
    By Kevin E. on October 20, 2014

    Answer:
As a stained unit, this item is only available in a Distressed Medium Oak finish. However, you could order the mantel as Unfinished and stain it to the shade of your preference upon receipt.

If you are looking for a mantel that is easy to install and will still look great, then I believe this would be a good mantel for you. I used screwdrivers and a ruler.

I wanted something that would stand out, and at first I didn't think this would. After seeing the design, I can say that the gradual arch pulls it together well.

Not Distressed Wood, Still Looks Good

I don't really think that they should continue with the distressed part of the product (it seems more like damage in a couple of areas), but other than that it is a great piece. I could recommend this to anyone looking to spruce up a fireplace.
