The back wall (length) of our fireplace is 28 inches. The sides are 18 inches. Is this the right fire back size for the gas fireplace?

While the fireback would fit quite easily, it will also need to fit behind the gas log set. For clarity, please view this installation manual.

Can this fireback be used with a ventless gas log set?
Will it raise the temperature of the log set too much and cause a problem? I have a remote with a sensor that sits inside the firebox.

Answer:R.H. Peterson, the manufacturer of this fireback, does not recommend using this item with ventless log sets. It would radiate too much heat back into the valve system of your ventless log set.

I am interested in pumping out more heat from the fireplace in the new home we just purchased. Do you think a fireback would be a good investment toward that goal? If so, what are the advantages of a 3 sided versus a fireback placed against the rear?

Answer:A fireback would be your best option for creating more radiant heat into the room from an open faced fireplace. If your fireplace is a manufactured model, you may also consider the installation of a blower if the unit already has power and is equipped with louvers.
Both single-sided and multi-sided firebacks do the job effectively. Multi-sided firebacks are slightly more effective at deflecting heat to the areas immediately to the left and right sides of the room. However, single-sided cast iron firebacks do a superior job at absorbing heat and radiating it for some time after the fire has gone out.

The fireback is 3 sided , what is the height , back width & each side panel width?
By Collin C. - NFI Master Hearth Professional on December 21, 2011
Answer:Per Peterson, the dimensions of the fireback are as follows:
Center panel height - 16"
Center panel width - 21.5"
Side panel widths - 12"
Side panel height - 14"
The side panel and center panel heights are the same for all Peterson firebacks.

My fireplace has gas logs and measures about 22" across back..I use 24" log set...are the stainless good for gas logs vs cast iron?? What size do I need?
By Tyler M. - Fireplace Specialist on December 8, 2011
Answer:If you have a vented log set, this stainless steel fireback will work well. It is 24" long, but features a three-sided folded heat shield design. If you have a ventless log set, it would not be recommended to use this or an other fireback, as that could radiate too much heat back to the pilot assembly.
