What size of gas logs can you put in this Osburn wood insert? How many CF is the insert? How large of an area will it heat? Is it easy to install? Are all parts included (except the vent)? How heavy is it? Is the fan quiet?
By eFireplaceStore on April 7, 2016
Answer:This unit is able to house 20 inch logs and has a firebox volume of 2.4 cubic feet. Based on the maximum BTU input and the average efficiency rating of this unit, the insert should heat approximately 1,650 square feet on average.
Inserts are relatively easy to install when compared to other appliances. They will come with detailed installation instructions that will guide the user. The unit is complete and ready to burn. The only other parts you will need are the venting components and potentially a larger face plate if your fireplace opening is particularly wide or tall. The unit weighs 474 pounds. The circulating fan uses sealed bearings and is insulated, making for very quiet operation.

I am looking for a fireplace insert that can fit an older fireplace that is 44 inches wide, 33 inches high and 17 inches deep at the base. The fireplace tapers up gradually to 13 inches at the top. Can you help me?

You will need to measure to make sure this will fit, but the Napoleon Timberwolf EPI22 EPA Wood Burning Fireplace Insert with Flashing
appears to work with these dimensions. To ensure this will work, you will need to measure 14" back from the hearth opening at the floor. From this point, you will need to measure straight up 21 3/4" to ensure you have at least 14" of depth.

I am trying to plan out my wood stove project and was wondering if it is possible to use an insert like the Osburn OBO2021 high efficiency EPA certified Matrix insert without having an existing masonry fireplace? I will follow all of the combustible clearance codes, build my wall housing out of non-combustible materials and run a chimney like required for a wood stove. Do you see any problems with this?
By eFireplaceStore on January 11, 2016
Answer:The Matrix insert is only rated for a masonry application, which is the case with most wood burning fireplace inserts. They do not have the insulation needed to be built into a framed opening. You could certainly build a masonry "firebox" to house the unit. If the venting system is to be housed within a combustible wall, you would need to use a Class A chimney system to vent it. That could be done by bolting the appropriate anchor plate to the top of the unit and venting up from there.
