In 2005 we built our house (owner/builder) It is a santa fe style flat roof house and we purchased a "construction" grade Desa firebox kit which included a double wall metal flue, located on an interior wall. We do not use the fireplace as a primary heat source. After about 15-30 minutes of burning the house fills with smoke. The walled in chase which holds the flue really fills with smoke. We have torn into the wall, and can not see the problem.
We are ready to tear out the Desa fireplace and replace it (Desa went out of business). The house is all electric, so it must be wood burning
Do you think your fireboxes would solve my problem?
By eFireplaceStore on September 26, 2014
Answer:From what you are describing, it seems like there must be an incomplete overlap at one of the pipe seams. The problem could be with the inner pipe, while the outer pipes are completely sealed, hiding the issue until smoke fills the space between the two walls and begins to leak out of the opening at the bottom of the stack.
The Superior unit you are viewing now is actually manufactured by the same general company, but under a different name. As such, the design of the stack is very similar, although this model uses a larger chimney system.
Other product lines we carry use similar air cooled chimney systems. During initial installation, it is very important to ensure that each pipe section firmly snaps into position.
