I love the look of this set and the tools are all very sturdy. The shovel especially is very sturdy—better than it appears. However, the thing is too easy to topple. I wish that the base were somewhat larger. I’d give this a perfect rating if it were.

I had done my homework and read all of the reviews on this product. I was a little nervous as to its stability, so I was ready to do some extra work to make it strong. Once I received the set, I did the little bit of assembling and was quite pleased with how the threading was done well and the pieces fit together very well and snug. So far I have had no problem with this set being unsteady. The tools are of nice quality and I am happy with how the stand is holding up.

    Follow the Instructions Carefully

Putting this fireplace set together was a challenge, but in the end I am very happy with my new fireplace tool set. The rods are of varying lengths and you must be careful to use the correct rod with the appropriate tool head. You will notice that the rods are numbered in the instructions but the heads of the tools do not have numbers on them, so follow the instructions closely. To locate the rod for the stand, look for the rod with the longest threads. Perhaps this is why some folks are having trouble with stability problems - perhaps they are pairing the wrong rods with the tool heads. The instructions called for three nuts, but I could only locate two and the diagram only shows using two. If you follow the assembly instructions you should end up with a product that is sturdy and usable.

This is an entry-level product that does what it is supposed to. It was confusing to assemble because the rods are different lengths and you have to be careful to get the correct rod for the tool.

If you just want to have a set of tools to go with a fireplace and do not care if they are cheap or not, then this is the set of tools that you should get. I am not particularly satisfied with this set of tools and expect to get rid of it shortly. Hopefully the next set I get will not require the same amount of doctoring I needed to do to keep this set functioning.

This purchase was an excellent value! The stand and the poker are made of cast iron, so they are very solid and function well. The shovel and broom are lighter in weight, but are still quite acceptable for the price that I paid. Some easy assembly required.

I wanted a set that wasn’t gaudy, was black, had functional tools, and was very stable while still taking little room. This set met all of my specs. And to my pleasant surprise, this set looks every bit as good as it does in the photo. While many sets are very tipsy, this one isn’t that way at all. I can remove and replace tools without the slightest danger of knocking the stand over. I also like the finish since it facilitates cleaning the tools with water when I’m done with them. The price of this set made me worry it might be very poor quality. I was pleasantly surprised.

The reviews I read prepared me for what I was getting. I’m quite pleased for what I spent. It’s cheap, but very functional. So far, I’ve used it several times and it does a very good job. The product is weighted well. The stand is a bit wobbly, but you can prop it against the fireplace or your wall for support. This was a good purchase for me.

I rarely burn wood in my fireplace, but when I do I need a tool set that is sturdy enough to handle the job. This set is nice for those like me that need a set that is for light use. If I were needing a set on a daily basis, I probably would have purchased a more durable set.

    Stand Not Sturdy

The tools are of a nice quality and work very well. However, the stand doesn't "stand" well under the weight and the use of the tools. We have to lean the stand against the fireplace. Perhaps this stand is defective in some way.

This product is ideal for small to mid-sized fireplaces. I had no trouble assembling it and it looks very nice, especially for what I paid. There are a couple of things that are a little lacking, though. First, sometimes the handle will turn a bit on you when you’re turning over a big log. It’s easy to turn it back into place though. Second, the metal cover on the brush doesn’t connect well to the piece on the brush it’s supposed to connect to. On the whole, though, I recommend this product to everyone.

I read a bunch of reviews before I bought this and they didn’t steer me wrong. The set is great for the money. It is easy to knock over, but you can put it next to a wall or something and you’ll have no trouble. I'm especially impressed with the shovel. My mom bought a pricier set, and her shovel head came off! This shovel is a lot stronger and thicker. The broom bristles might be a little bent when you get it, but I recommend using a blow dryer to straighten them out. I like this product so much that I’d purchase it again in a heartbeat.

    Some Flaws

Not everyone seems to be having the trouble that I am having, but there are a few reviews with my complaint. The handle on the poker tends to rotate as you are using it and loosen the handle from the tool. If your handles rotate or seem loose, you could weld the pieces together. If you can spot weld, that would work, too. If you want to take a chance with this set because of the low price and overall function, just keep in mind that you can tweak the product if you have the same problems. Personally, I don't think a customer should have to do this work, but that the manufacturer should make some improvements.

    Multiple Pieces a Weakness
    By
    Karen Jackson
    from Iowaon
    September 8, 2010
We haven’t been happy with how the tools function. The handles screw on to the rods, so it’s very easy to unscrew them as you’re using the tool. What’s more, the poker head doesn’t fit its rod very well. It will often loosen as we’re using it to move a piece of wood. I think we’re going to have to weld the pieces together. I suggest you find tools that are one solid piece.

The tools in this fireplace set are made sturdy. I use the poker the most and it is a nicely weighted tool. I didn't want to spend a fortune on a set because I am a renter and have an occasional fire in a small fireplace. If that is your situation, then I think this would be a good set for you. Other reviewers have mentioned that the stand fall over, but I have not had that problem. I am very careful and take my time.

If you are renting a home like we are and don't want to spend a lot of money on something that may not get used that often, then I could recommend this fireplace tool set. The brush isn't much to talk about, but the two pieces that I use the most, the poker and the shovel, are very adequate to our needs. We also hang a bellows on the side and the stand is able to handle that without falling over.

I was looking for a temporary set that would get me through the cold season. This set is doing fine. Assembly was easy enough for me not to need the directions. I made sure that the screws were tightened down as far as they’d go. This ensures that the handles stay fixed tightly to their tools. I found that the brush bristles were bent when they arrived, so I used a blow dryer like one reviewer suggested and that worked really well. I was missing a nut, so I couldn’t attach the rod to the base properly. Thus, the rod that holds the tools is a bit quivery, but at least I haven’t had any problems with the set falling over. It actually seems more stable this way. I should probably ask the company to send me the nut, though. I recommend this set if you’re wanting a basic set for cheap.
