What does refractory mean on some of the log sets?
Refractory refers to the material that the logs are composed of. With gas logs, logs composed of a refractory mixture is the much better alternative when compared to the other option, which is ceramic fiber. While ceramic fiber logs included with a complete log set will result in a lower price and some customers prefer ceramic fiber as it will provide a glow when exposed to heat, ceramic fiber is semi-porous and impossible to thoroughly clean. Logs composed of ceramic fiber also have a tendency to deteriorate over time and require replacement. Solid refractory logs are easy to clean and will last a lifetime. Additionally, logs composed of refractory ceramics will look more realistic as they are hand painted.
