I have a propane gas insert and when we use it the brick above and picture get so hot. I saw where you had surface mounting and lintel mounting. Which do you recommend?
    1 Answer
Surface mount hoods are the most popular, as you can mount it to the surface above the fireplace itself. Typically a 4-inch projection will suffice, but you may consider a 6-inch if you have a very high BTU rating with this model.

When drilling through the lintel how long are the self-tapping screws? Do they require metal and masonry drilling?
    1 Answer
The hood will not include any screws or anchors, so you will need to provide your own based on the mount type you select. When using a lintel mount, yes, you will be drilling into the lintel itself, which is the steel that holds up the top row of bricks in a masonry fireplace.

The Elite Square End Fireplace Hood, 36‚€ x 6‚€ is a lintel Mount-correct? How deep is the lintel Mount? 4‚€?
    1 Answer
The hood in question is available as both a surface and lintel mount hood by selecting your mounting type preference via the 2nd drop-down menu under the finish drop-down menu. If chosen as a lintel mount hood, the flange for lintel-mounting the hood will project out 1" from the back of the hood.

My interior fireplace is slightly over 36‚€ and I believe the 36‚€ x 6‚€ hood would work. Considering the lintel mount but wouldn‚€™t that require drilling into the steel brick plate? Also, would the surface mount have a installation bracket that the hood then connects to?
    1 Answer
Please click here for the installation instructions for the surface mount and here for the installation instructions for the lintel mount.

Is the clearance to combustible materials the same for the 6 inch and the 4 inch hood?
    1 Answer
These hoods are heat deflectors and do not change the listed clearance requirements for your fireplace. They are to be mounted either into the lintel of a fireplace (lintel mount) or onto a noncombustible surface above the fireplace opening (surface mount).

My customer's fireplace opening is 35 1/2" and the wood trim is just 7 1/2" inches above the lintel area. The 8" mantel is just above that and I am wondering what size hood should we suggest for her situation. I am not sure if she would prefer something in flat black or brass.
    1 Answer
The 6" projection should be good for protecting your mantel based on the depth.

Can this fireplace hood be attached to marble?
    1 Answer
It is indeed possible to anchor this hood to a marble slab or tile. However, it is necessary to drill into the marble to insert anchors. A masonry bit, specifically a porcelain or tile type, should be used. A hammer drill will also be needed. It is recommended to bore very slowly, especially if you have marble tile. Applying too much pressure can cause the marble to crack.
