The four sensitive probes that come with this Napoleon Digital Wood Moisture Meter will help you avoid one of the biggest potential problems of a wood-burning appliance - using wood with too high a moisture content. Using wood that is too wet leads to a smoky, sooty fire that can stain masonry or discolor or even clog up a heating appliance.

Using this meter eliminates that problem, though. It has a large test range to give you an accurate reading, which is displayed on an LCD screen for easy reading. Take it with you using the included carrying case, or just use it where you need it at home.

What is the largest diameter wood that this can measure? We have large logs more than 12" diameter.

Per the manufacturer, the diameter of the log does not matter. This device measures resistance of current through the log. As such, it will give moisture content of the log as a whole, regardless of the diameter.

    Wood Moisture Reading Meter
Being told my load of wood was dry and seasoned I wanted to be sure so I wouldn't smoke out my house like I did last year. Sure enough the wood was dry. I'm a widow and live alone and I got taken more than once. Now I can check the logs before they are dumped in my yard. Thank you for a good product.

    Napoleon Digital Wood Moisture Meter
I am a little disappointed in this product. The battery cover does not stay secured and pushes off when trying to push probes into wood which leads me to the next issue. The directions say to push gently into wood 1/8", well even pushing hard it is impossible for the 4 probes to be pushed by hand into the end grain of a piece of hard wood that has been cured and dead for sometime. I would not recommend this.
