    The bottom of this fire ring is open and should only be placed on a noncombustible surface.

    This item is shipped broken down. It will come in three pieces if you order the 30" or 38" and four pieces if you order the 48."

    Do I need to or should I dig a hole for this to sit into?

    Per the manufacturer, it is not necessary to dig a pit for this fire ring to sit into. However, there is not an issue with doing so, should you wish to go with that look.
