Shopping for large capacity, great functionality, and unbeatable cost-effectiveness often leads homeowners right to this Drolet HT2000 High Efficiency EPA Wood Burning Stove. This pedestal-mounted stove is the choice of homeowners who want everything a big heating appliance has to offer, but who don't want to sacrifice efficiency or value.

That's because this stove has one of the largest fireboxes in its class, but is approved by the EPA for its heating efficiency and low emissions. The firebox is aided in heating effectiveness by the refractory bricks lining the firebox and the ceramic glass door with a cast iron frame. All of that burning wood might inhibit the operation of another stove, but this unit has a convenient ash drawer for easy cleaning and a glass air-wash system for helping keep the viewing glass clear. The Drolet HT2000 Stove is environmentally sound, great to look at, and able to tackle even the biggest of heating problems with ease.

How long does the wood last before you have to put more in it?
    1 Answer
The burn time on this stove is 10 hours. This burn time can change based on many factors, most importantly the density of the wood. I would expect a burn time between 8-10 hours if you are burning the stove on low with dense wood, like oak or birch with low moisture content.

No, that model does not come rear venting. Currently, there are very few units that allow rear vent. We only sell two. This is largely due to recent EPA regulations on emissions on wood stoves.

Will this stove withstand burning osage orange wood?
    1 Answer
Since the wood type in question has properties that are similar to coal, it can damage any wood stove if its used as the only fuel. I recommend mixing small amounts of osage with other wood types to avoid damaging any wood stove while burning osage orange wood. If burned alone, load only a small amount.

The stove has to be vented according to the owner's manual but if you have Class A chimney pipe you should be able to use it.  The stove requires you to use stove pipe until you reach the first ceiling and then continue with all Class A chimney pipe.

    1 Answer
As with most EPA stoves on the market today, this unit is only able to be ordered with a top mounted flue collar. The unit can be vented horizontally through a wall, but it is recommended to have a minimum of a 12 inch vent run off the top of the stove before doing so. The flue collar is 34 3/8 inches off of the floor.

    Love my HT2000
Love my HT2000, I love how it works on the second burn. I love the burn times, I love the heat from this unit. I have it centralized with cold air drop boxes located in 4 cold air spots on the outside perimeter of my centralized unit. Heat rises through 3 8" grates above the wood stove in basement. It pushes hot air up and out to the 4 cold air drop box locations and the cold air automatically drops through the drop boxes to the basement floor and then it gets heated as it circulated around the hot burning HT2000 and back up through the grates. Natural convection. 1100 square feet on lives level and 1100 sq feet in the basement. 28-30 degrees in the basement and 22-26 degrees on the living room level. I burn mostly dry birch and spruce juniper mix. Eco fans for a more balanced distribution of circulated air. Air intake damper on 2 when stove hits 500 degrees and sit back and watch this unit work the best to warm the house amazingly. -15 to -30 outside. When it warms to single-digit minuses or low pluses it uses less care to operate to maintain a warm living area. Very pleased to watch this unit work. It is an awesome engineered heating unit.
ProsLarge firebox and massive unit. Lots of steel to maintain longer heat temperatures. The glass door is an awesome size to watch this unit work.

    wonderful stove
Love it, love it, love it! I've been using it a month, burns clean, and it's hard to keep the house under 75 degrees. A nice bed of coals in the morning. Burning mostly oak and elm. I like the fact there is no high dollar converter to replace every few years. The large ash pan is nice.

    Best stove ever
Bought this for a new home purchase. I have used wood stoves all my life and this unit by far is the best. The firebox is immense. The operation is brainless. One control and that's it. I couldn't say how pleased i am with this purchase, and half the price of other units makes this an easy decision. Unit comes fully assembled less the pedestal base. If you are on the fence, get it, you won't be disappointed.

Burns wood well, lots of heat
The stove arrived well crated, we paid extra for a lift gate delivery. The stove burns wood really well and hot. The air intake is simple to use. It burns through the night with plenty of coals in the morning for an easy starting reload.
I would have given it five stars if the fan system worked better. It seems like the design was an after thought and the blower does little to change the hot air output at the vents beyond the natural convection and radiation.

    Worth the Money
Even though my main heat source during the winter was an oil furnace, because this stove can easily heat both floors of my house, I will not be using the furnace much anymore. Thankfully, the reviews are in no way exaggerated. I can burn this stove throughout the day, and it will stay hot throughout the night. The controls are very conveniently located (no more bending down to adjust the dampener), and the hot air circulates really well with the optional fans. Since it burns so efficiently, there is hardly any ash. I only empty the ash once a week.

    So Efficient!
I know that this stove might weigh almost a thousand pounds, but I can guarantee that that weight is nothing but beneficial. It is extremely durable, and all of the extra fire bricks and metal really retains heat for a long time. Another energy efficient feature (that you can actually see when burning in the stove) is the numerous pipes toward the top of the stove. There are blue flames all along the holes in these tubes. These flames are produced when the concentrated heat from the fire ignites all of the flammable fumes that come from a fire. That extra efficiency is one of the things that will keep me coming back to this stove for years to come. Also, if you are looking for something to keep all that heat circulating throughout the rooms of your house, the circulation fans that you can buy with the stove work wonderfully.

    Provides Excellent Service
After several days of searching the Internet looking for a good deal on a stove, I located this product. All I can say is that this is an excellent product. It is able to heat a large room, and using a box fan you can keep an entire house heated with the greatest of ease. It only takes one person to successfully install, and if you have a good load of firewood in it, you can expect it to burn for eight hours without a problem. This is terrific when trying to cut heating costs in the winter.

    Great Burn Time
I had my previous stove for more than eight years. It did a great job, but a full load of wood only lasted three to four hours. Reluctant to watch my wood disappear so fast, I started looking for a quality stove with a longer burn time. The stoves I initially found were quite expensive, but then I came across Drolet Stoves. I liked the fact that they are manufactured in Canada instead of China. Once I started using the stove, I was very pleased to find that it met my goals quite well. At 10:30 p.m., I fill the firebox and bank the fire. When I wake at 7:00 a.m., I find red hot coals that burst into flame with the addition of a few logs. The firebox is large enough to place 20 inch logs in either direction, and the draft setting is great. It comes almost completely assembled, but you will need help to move it since it weighs more than 500 pounds. I would recommend this stove to anyone looking for a unit at a great price with good heat output and long burn time.

    Wife Loves It
Our home is 1700 sq. ft., and this stove will keep the whole house comfortable when burning at the slowest burn configuration. Our previous stove was in need of replacement, but the quality is worlds apart between that stove and this one. The last stove had problems keeping a good fire going, but we can keep a fire going for more than three days with this stove. I'm also convinced that it would have lasted longer than that if we had continued scooping out the ashes and then putting in more logs. My wife also loves this stove much more than the last, and is impressed with how long fires last. We will be using this stove for years to come.

    Thrilled with the Quality
I did a lot of research before I purchased this stove, and I have been thrilled with my choice. Prior to this purchase, we used an older stove for our home's heating needs. This one only goes through about half as much wood even though it is twice as large. It is also much easier to deal with. Because it is an EPA stove, the wood burns much more thoroughly, so the ashes only accumulate about once a week. The stove feels very solid and well constructed. It also looks nice and is very efficient. I highly commend Drolet for the quality craftsmanship of this product.

    Glad I Waited
When I originally ordered this stove, I was disappointed when it could not be delivered in the same month. When I learned how long it was going to take to receive it, I almost cancelled my order, but I'm glad I waited. The stove arrived sooner than quoted and has been beyond compare of any of the stoves I've ever owned. Some customers stated in their reviews that the packing crate was flimsy, that they didn't like the air vent on top, or that smoke filled the room when they started a fire. I was very satisfied with the sturdiness of the shipping crate, would rather have the air vent on top of the stove than underneath, and if the choke is opened completely and the door cracked open slightly, smoke will not enter the room while the fire is being lit. I am very satisfied with the quality of my stove and how easy it is to use.

Best Used in a Large Home
After several months of use, we are very happy with the performance of this stove. We chose the optional thermostat and fan and are glad that we did. They definitely help to disseminate the warm air through the room, and the fan is surprisingly quiet. The stove has an up-to-date design with a lot of nice features including a tight seal, secondary combustion, a large door window and easy disposal of ashes. At a weight of about 500 pounds, moving it is no easy task. It does a good job of keeping our 2200 square foot home warm even in subzero temperatures. A fire built with hardwoods will burn for about 8 hours with coals left for relighting. I would not recommend this stove for use in a home that is less than 1500 square feet. It is a very large unit and will do best heating a large space.

    Better Than Any Previous Stoves
After a few months of burning in this stove, I can honestly say it is better than any other wood stove I have purchased. It will heat our two floor house, and if you have a fire in it when you go to bed, you will be guaranteed enough embers to start it the next day.

    Confirms the Positive Reviews
I bought this stove based on a good amount of research and a lot of reviews. All the positive reviews are quite correct. It is a great stove. I left it crated for a time while I finished remodeling the area where it would be placed. I discovered that 4 two inch PVC pipe portions placed under the pallet made it very easy to roll out of the way. I chose not to order the optional blower, but instead I purchased a separate blower. The combination works very well. I actually had hoped the firebox would be bigger, but I am used to working with older stoves that had extremely large fireboxes. Overall though, I am very happy with my purchase of this product.

Getting It in Is Tough, But Worth It
I really like this stove, but there are a couple of things for which you have to be ready. One of the first would be the price. I do believe it is worth it, but it certainly isnt a small investment. The other big consideration is how heavy it is. When I first bought the stove, there were a few choices I had to make. I could either do pickup or delivery (at four feet tall, you wont be picking up this package unless you have a truck), and they usually will just put it on the road in front of your house. If you have a jack or very heavy duty hand truck/dolly, you could probably get it in the house with some considerable extra muscle. I hope that the previous few statements didn't discourage you, because it is an excellent deal. It is efficient, built to last, and I could recommend it to anyone.

    Keeps Our Home Warm
For starters, our home is a one level dwelling place that contains close to 3,200 square feet of living space. We absolutely love the service that this product is able to provide us with, keeping our hone in the mid 70s even during the coldest parts of the winter. One tip is to use dry wood that is both seasoned and clean.

    Simply Delighted
I researched stoves thoroughly online prior to ordering this one. The first one that arrived had a dent, which happens sometimes during shipping; however, I called about it and another one was promptly delivered in just four days in perfect condition! This stove had our large living area heated to 80 degrees on a 17 degree day. I have two other stoves in my 5,800 square foot house, but this one is by far the best. The firebox has ample room for a fire big enough to burn for 12 hours insuring a live coal bed in the morning. The stove is built sturdy and strong to last practically forever! It was a good buy, too--much less expensive than comparable products.

    More Economical than Propane
As we searched for a wood stove, we were primarily concerned about the price and the BTU's it produced. This unit was the best stove that we found. We really enjoy the cozy ambiance that the stove produces as compared to central heat. We placed the unit in our family room and did decide to purchase the optional blower. It is a little loud, but it does a great job of circulating the warm air to keep our two level, 3400 square foot home at 72 degrees. It is much more economical than propane. Before we bought this unit, we had the thermostat set at 64 yet we still spent $2200 for heat. How nice to shed the coats and hats and enjoy our warm home. We are having a little trouble keeping the glass on the front clean, but that is a minor issue.

    Hot in the Colorado Mountains
I live at an altitude of 9500 feet in the Colorado mountains. I have had this stove for three years, and it does a great job of heating my 1500 square foot log home. Once, it was 80 degrees indoors while it was 20 degrees below zero outside! The stove is very sturdy and has a thick steel top plate that handles the high temperatures very well. My previous stove did not have this feature and eventually cracked from the heat. The firebox is quite large. I am able to fit a good amount of wood inside. This feature is very nice when I need a long burn, such as overnight or when I am gone for the day. The ash drawer works very well and in my opinion, is just the right size. I installed a Magic Heat blower above the stove which helps to heat the house even quicker. Using this stove has allowed me to drastically cut my furnace and propane usage. I used to have to fill my propane tank at least three times each winter. Now, I only fill it every other year -- a significant cost savings.

One of the biggest advantages to this stove would have to be how fast it heats up my house (about a 1200 sq. ft. home). In less than an hour, I can go from below freezing to a comfortable temperature in the high sixties or low seventies. After filling the stove up once, the fire will keep the house warm throughout a better part of the day. I do have a couple of recommendations in installing and running the stove. First of all, when you are unpacking the stove, don't put it on anything that you wouldn't want crushed. It is very heavy. It will be worth it later though, as all the mass will hold a lot of heat. Also, burn dry wood first, and once it gets up to 400 or so degrees, you can add the wetter wood. If you keep it above 600 degrees, you wont have any problems with residue on the glass.

    Beautiful for Our Cabin
Our cabin (about 2000 sq. ft.) will stay completely warmed once we get this stove going. It is surprising with ceilings almost fifteen feet tall, and all the heat is circulated extremely well with the help of a couple of ceiling fans. With night temperatures reaching over 25 below zero, baseboard heating was starting to get costly. Thankfully, this stove has not only reduced our heating bills through efficient burning, but also given our cabin a beautiful centerpiece. It is also very well designed, so maintenance is easy.

    Large and Heavy
When I bought this stove, I was looking for one that carried an EPA certification, was large and sturdy, and was priced competitively. Now that I've used it for a while, I've noticed a number of thing that I really like and a few things that I don't care for. The stove has a long burn time, and I've been able to start a new fire from the coals up to 13.5 hours after its last full wood load. The large glass area allows me to enjoy watching the fire. It has great heat production, but the air control area stays fairly cool to prevent accidental burns while adjusting the air intake. Once the fire is hot, there is little to no smoke production. The Drolet personnel were very helpful in answering my questions. My only complaints were the gold trim and the ash removal system. In order to remove the ashes, you must take out a plug to allow the ashes to fall into the ash pan below the firebox. I prefer the grate and sealed ash pan door of other stoves that I have seen. I also didn't like the look of the gold trim, but I covered it with black stove paint, so it wasn't that big a deal. Overall though, if you are looking for a large, heavy stove with a plain appearance and great heat output, this is the stove for you.

    No Regrets
My old stove had reached the end of its time, so I bought this unit when it was time for an upgrade. After a few months of use, I would say that I couldn't have done better. The air cleaner works great (any buildup is burned off after a hot fire is burned in the stove), and it is really easy to see how efficient it is. Not only do I barely have anything but ash in the ash tray, but there will be plenty of coals in the fire after a long night. If you keep the damper open the proper amount and give it enough fuel, you wont have to worry about restarting a fire from scratch for a while. One downside is that the fans can seem a little weak for how noisy they are, but an extra fan in the room will make sure to keep the hot air moving.

    Well Worth It
We were getting tired of paying upwards of $400 a month for heating, so we started looking for a good stove to supplement our heat (our house was completely electrical and 1800 square feet). After we purchased a Drolet HT200, we were amazed at how easily it would warm our whole house. If we fill up the stove before we leave for the day, there will still be enough hot embers to start a new fire when we get home. Where we are, there is a tax credit you can get for energy efficient heating, so I would definitely check your areas eligibility. You will more than get your moneys worth with this stove.

    Check the Draft, Excellent Unit
I have noticed several reviewers that are complaining about smoke getting into the house while fueling the stove. This is obviously a problem, but it happens for a very specific reason. Poor draft. You can get poor draft through a stove whenever the pipe in the chimney isnt long enough, or it needs to be cleaned. Once you take care of these problems, you shouldn't have any smoke escaping, even with the door wide open. Although the glass will stay pretty clean if you burn the fires hot enough, I do use a soot cleaning spray with my glass. That spray works wonders. I guess if I had to give any criticism on this excellent stove, I would have to say that the optional blower that comes with the unit doesnt move enough air and is too noisy. Also, if they made the ash tray a little longer, it would be a little more convenient.

    Great Stove For the Price
This stove is a terrific purchase when you take a look at the costs. At first, I found myself a bit on the skeptical side of things. I have always believed in the adage that says you get what you pay for, remaining skeptical even after I had placed an order. Now, I am thrilled to say that this stove is able to keep our 1850 square foot home heated with the greatest of ease. The quality of the materials used to make it is the highest, and I am quite pleased with the fact that no scratch or ding is apparent in it.

    Little Wood for High Heat
After using this stove for around a year, I think that we can safely say that we are well satisfied with its performance. We installed it in the basement, yet its warmth keeps our entire 3000 square foot house quite comfortable. When set on low, one load of wood will last for more than eight hours, and the coals are still viable after twelve. It only uses half the wood that our previous stove went through. If you leave the door open when starting the fire, you will get a little smoke, but using a good fire starter will minimize that issue. We did find that turning it to high for a few seconds before adding wood prevented any backdrafts from the fresh air entering the firebox. We also turned it to high for a little bit after adding fresh wood, but other than those two times we leave it set on low. Besides its great performance, it has a nice appearance as well. If I had more than one home, I would buy another.

    Great Job of Heating
This stove does an amazing job of heating our entire 5700 square foot home. We placed it in the basement, and the heat diffuses up the basement stairs and through the floor. I wish the door and firebox were taller, but even at their present size, a full load of wood will burn for eight to ten hours. I have had problems with the door window becoming sooty but have been able to clean it by scraping it with a razor blade. To remove the ashes, you are supposed to pull a plug in the stove's floor to allow the ashes to drop into a pan below. I find it simpler just to remove them with a shovel.

    Heats 1850s Home
I have an older brick and stone farmhouse that was built in the mid 1800s. It is about 2700 square feet with 10-foot ceilings and the original windows. I purchased this wood stove thinking that I would use it along with another heat source to keep my home comfortable in cold weather. To my surprise, this stove alone provided enough heat to make me almost too warm on a 26-degree night. I also have thermostat-controlled infrared heaters, but they rarely kick on when the fire in the stove is burning well. My only complaint is that I wish the stove included the blower instead of it being a separate optional feature. Overall, I am very happy with this product.

    Very Satisfied With the Stove
I am very happy in the end that I decided to purchase this model stove to install in my home. I have put it in the basement, and the blowers that I have installed in my home do a terrific job of dispersing the heat to keep the entire home a very comfortable temperature.

Happy after Six Years of Use
We have used this woodstove for six years and are very happy with it. We placed it in the basement of our home, yet it efficiently heats our entire 1400 square foot second floor. Even when the temperature outdoors is in the teens, the inside of the house stays above 70 degrees. The stove does have a very strong draft when a fire is burning inside. For this reason, you may need to take precautions to prevent filling your room with smoke when lighting your fire. You should also be sure that flames are visible when you add new wood. If you close the damper without seeing flames, you may experience a flashback explosion. This is a great stove, and we highly recommend it.

    Performs Great In the Winter
I have found a lot of use for this stove in a 1200 square foot camp site that I use in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Just to tell you how effective this product is, I can keep the temperature in the entire site very comfortable even if the outdoor temperature dips to 20 or 30 degrees below zero. This stove packs so much power that I would not recommend it for a small home unless your home has poor insulation and requires a very powerful heating system.

Spruces Up and Heats Up the House
This stove is not only a beautiful piece, but it has all but eliminated our heating bills. After a fire is burned in the stove, it will stay hot for hours, and it retains heat well enough that there are almost always enough embers to start a fire in the morning. We would buy it again.

    Little Bit of Smoke
Like some of the other reviewers, I have had a little bit of trouble with smoke getting out when the door is open, but I don't think that is uncommon for wood stoves in general. This stove really is a good value, and it is much more functional than other stoves I have used.

    Keeps the Barn Warm
As anyone who owns a barn knows, keeping it warm inside when below freezing is a pain. With the circulation fans on the stove, my entire barn will be in the mid-seventies even when it is fifteen below freezing. It burns the wood very completely (rarely do I find anything more substantial than ash), and it is super easy to clean. This stove is excellent, and I am glad I bought it.

    Drolet Is Quality
I have to congratulate whoever designed this stove. After another stove that was fairly decent, this stove was exceptional. Maintenance and air control was easy, it will burn efficiently, and maintenance is a breeze (clean out the ash once in a while, thats it). If I have to buy another stove in the future, I can guarantee that I will be buying a Drolet.

    Warms Me Up
After a couple months of very steady use, I could easily recommend this stove to anyone who is looking to heat their home efficiently. Our home stays about 50 degrees warmer than the air outside, and I am talking about below freezing temperatures. We have a two story home, and with a ceiling fan to circulate all the hot air, everywhere gets nice and warm. Getting the unit without the air circulation fan was fine for us, but it might move the heat around a little more. With a nice chimney liner, you shouldn't have any problem with smoke getting in the house. I have virtually no problem with it, even with the door open. I also love the fact that, even though the stove is very efficient and functional, it also looks absolutely great! Even though the glass should be self-cleaning when the fire gets hot enough, I will usually use newspaper and glass cleaner to maintain it (although make sure the glass is cool before attempting to clean it).

    Removed My Propane Dependency
I noticed that some of the other reviewers were having problems with smoke coming out of the stove, but I noticed (after a period of my own smoke issues) that it turned out to be a problem with the chimney. After getting the liner a little longer, I was able to pretty much eliminate a smoking problem. I used to have to fill my propane heating tank multiple times a year, but I have only filled it up once since I bought the stove. This stove will keep my house at a comfortable temperature with minimal effort, and it would probably get the house far hotter if I needed it to (not sure why I would though). If I were to ask to change one thing on the stove, it would be to make the damper a little more robust. It seems like the metal they used doesnt quite seal off the intake when I need it to.

    Great Christmas Gift
It is imperative that you get help to install this stove because it is quite heavy. I had purchased this particular stove as a Christmas gift for my dad because he lives in a two story home that is relatively difficult to heat during the winter time. In fact, this stove is so effective in heating a home that sometimes I find the need to crack a window because of the intensity of the heat.

    Great for Ranchers
If you have a ranch house, then I would definitely say that this is your stove. I have a very large house, and not only will this stove burn logs up to 22 inches (even though it says the max is 19), but it will burn them efficiently and heat my entire house. All the design choices also make for easy maintenance. I really like this stove.

    Really Efficient Burning
I'm not new to wood stoves in any sense of the word, but I can honestly say that this stove is worlds apart from any others I have owned. It is extremely efficient when burning. We ended up burning about four cords of wood during the four months we used it last season. For heating a three story house over a whole season, four cords of wood is very good burning. After two seasons of saving on heating bills, we will start saving money over and above the cost of the stove. I can't believe the money this stove is saving me, and with even more wood ready this season, I'm prepared to get it even hotter in the house if need be.

    Flimsy Shipping Container
I had fairly major problems with the stove's shipping container. It was not very sturdy, and the first stove I received was unusable. The replacement arrived with a broken baffle brick, and another brick cracked after using the stove for one winter. I chose to add the optional blower, but I wish I had not. It is not very powerful and definitely not worth the extra expense. I ended installing my own fan to get the circulation I needed. Other than these complaints, I am happy with the stove. I think it is a good unit for the price I paid. It is sturdy, has a very large firebox, and keeps a fire going through the entire night.

    Misplaced Air Control
My one complaint with this stove is the location of the air control. When I open the door to add wide, the stove naturally loses draft causing smoke to come out the air control. This is not helpful when the air control is located above the door. Other than this major issue, it is a very good stove.

    Almost Too Hot for Comfort
This stove has served me well for five years. I have a 17,000 square foot split level home, and this stove keeps it almost too warm. In fact, I only turned on the blower if temperatures dropped below zero, otherwise the house would be too hot for comfort. I'm moving soon and will definitely miss the stove, but I plan to buy a fireplace insert from the same company. This stove is great for anyone with a large home in a cold weather region.
