How do you remove your old clean out to replace it with a new one?
    1 Answer
The old cleanout and surrounding mortar would be removed with a chisel. The replacement should be set in place with mortar and braced while the mortar cures.

What exactly is the function of a cleanout door? I noticed my door does not close all the way. I also notice, that I sometimes get smoke in the house. Is this related to the cleanout door not closing all the way?
    1 Answer
The clean out door is used to access the chimney for cleaning. If it is not closing all the way, it would be contributing to the smoke issue you are seeing.
