Customer Q&A with Product Specialists

Norm K. from Albuquerque, NM asked:
How hot does the fireplace get behind the insert? Do the electrical lines and fixtures for the insert blower have to be heat-resistant?
How hot does the fireplace get behind the insert? Do the electrical lines and fixtures for the insert blower have to be heat-resistant?
Electrical connections are not allowed inside the firebox when installing a wood-burning insert.  The cord for the blower will have to run on the hearth outside the unit.

Does this have an ash pan for cleanout or a lip in front of the door to keep the coals from falling out?
Does this have an ash pan for cleanout or a lip in front of the door to keep the coals from falling out?
There is no ashpan on this model. However, there is a "step down" into the firebox to keep the ashes/coals from falling out when opening the door.

Does the insert have to be installed in an existing fireplace or can it be installed in a properly constructed wood and insulated fireplace such as is used for gas fireplaces?

An insert can only be installed in an existing and up to code brick/masonry wood fireplace. Or in a pre-fabricated fully installed wood fireplace (metal) if the manufacturer allows it. A gas fireplace can not accept wood burning inserts.
