Can you use this fireback as a backsplash behind a stove, and if so how would it be mounted?
The purpose of cast iron firebacks is to be placed in the rear of wood-burning fireplaces. They normally are ordered with a set of feet to rest on. This being the case, the manufacturer has no instructions on how to mount a fireback in that scenario.

The manufacturer recommends leaning them back against the rear or using the fireback feet.

Yes, the height is from the bottom to the highest part of the arch. Also, the optional leg kit would add 1" to 1.5" of height.
