My opening is 45 wide. If I get this screen, will the legs be too far apart to stabilize?
As long as you have sufficient hearth width to place this 50-inch wide screen in front of your opening, it will be fine and look nice in front of your fireplace opening.

The feet only extend back into the fireplace opening and are adjustable because the inner hearth floor of any fireplace is typically un uneven surface.

Purchased this for our son/daughter-in-law's home which had a HUGE open hearth gas fireplace with fire glass crystals which made the fireplace an "attractive nuisance" for their toddler. The screen fits perfectly and "disappears into the fireplace. Clean, modern and just perfect in every way. The website described the screen to a 'T', purchasing was easy, and delivery was fast (screen arrived before promised).
