With the crossbar in place, how far from the back wall would it be? What is the screen mesh made of?

Per the manufacturer, this screen measures 62 inches across the back with the cross bar in position and 15 inches in depth with the bar in place. The screen is made of a fine metal mesh.

Can this be used for a wood fireplace? Are there any handles?

This could be used in front of a woodburning fireplace if the size makes sense for your application. There are no traditional style handles.

The bar is not adjustable, and the back width when set up is 62".
