The American Panel Hearth Classic 54 x 54 Classic Edge Type 2 Corner Hearth Board really amps up your fireplace's look with its neat design. Hello, I have a VT Bun Burner (21.6" x 21") to install over a wood floor. The specs state the board should have an R-value of 0.84 BTU/In. How does that translate to R-value? The product description mentions it should be 1 inch thick. Do people usually put tiles on this hearth board, or use it as is? And how much does it weigh?
This Classic Edge Type 2 Corner Hearth Board has a published R-value of 2.24, which, as shown in the manufacturer's installation manual, is above the minimum R-value of 1.0 required for a Type 2 hearth pad. We do not have documentation confirming how a 0.84 BTU per inch figure applies to this specific board; therefore, for this installation, we would rely on the R-value of 2.24 rather than attempting to convert that figure. The frame on this board is 1 inch, with a single 1/2 inch non-combustible substrate inside providing thermal protection. This board ships with its tile finish already applied at the factory in the selected color, making it ready to install as is without needing additional tile. It weighs 203 lbs. Because hearth pad requirements can vary by stove, we recommend confirming the minimum R-value your specific stove's installation manual calls for before installation.
