We are building a square fire pit and the insert opening is 36 inches. Should I order a 33-inch or a 36-inch grate to place inside the pit?
For a 36-inch square fire pit insert opening, we recommend ordering a 30-inch Aspen Industries Master Flame Square Carbon Steel Fire Grate. Our sizing guidelines suggest deducting 6 inches from your fire pit's opening measurement to ensure optimal airflow and a proper fit, allowing for at least a 3-inch buffer on all sides. A 33-inch grate would provide less than the recommended clearance, and a 36-inch grate would be too large for your 36-inch opening. Therefore, a 30-inch grate is the best choice.

Exactly What I Needed
I built a large patio area with a custom fire pit in the middle for my church and needed a nice grate for inside the fire pit. I ordered exactly what I needed, and I am very pleased with what I received. It is strong and heavy, it fits perfectly, and everyone is very pleased with it.
