Can this be used without a hearth extension?
This insert is designed to protrude from the fireplace opening. I would not recommend installing this insert into a fireplace that does not have a hearth extension to support the front of the insert and protect the floor from heat and embers.

This project is 6.5" from the fireplace opening. Since the required hearth depth for this insert is 20", you have the appropriate hearth.

No, this insert is only suitable and listed for installation inside a brick or masonry fireplace with a functional chimney already in place.
