Is the unit deep enough to not require heat-protective flooring beneath it and a wall heat-protective plate behind it?
The unit is 16" deep and does not require any wall protection as long as the stove is placed with a minimum clearance of 4" from the wall. The manual states the following about flooring materials under the stove: This stove is a freestanding unit designed to be set directly on the floor. Do not place the stove directly on carpeting, vinyl tile, or any combustible material other than wood. The stove must be set on a metal or wood panel, extending the full width and depth of the appliance.

How does it ignite, where's the control located?
This unit has gas valve control access and an igniter on the front, bottom of the appliance. The panel where the Buck Stove emblem is located, swings open on a hinge. There is also a rocker switch behind this panel to turn the unit on and off after the pilot is lit. This unit can also accept millivolt remote controls and millivolt thermostats to be used as an alternative to the rocker switch set-up from the factory.

Yes, all of our vent-free gas hearth appliances come equipped with an ODS (oxygen depletion sensor).

Love my new Buck Stove
Perfect stove for my little cottage. Love the size and style. Really puts out the heat and I really like the vent free feature. No more ugly pipes going through the ceiling. Should have ordered a thermostat at the same time that I ordered the stove. I ended up having to order it separately and I wish I known to order it at the same time. Descriptions on the website could be a bit more clear.
The only thing I don't like is that the fan blows air out of the top of the front of the stove rather than the bottom of the stove. Now I know that should not make much of a difference, but the dogs and cat really like lying right in front of the heater!
Pros
Puts out a LOT of heat. Looks nice. Would like to see the stove, fan and thermostat as a package deal rather than having to search out individual items.
Cons
Description on the website was hard to decipher. Had two very similar stoves on the website and the only difference that I could tell was that one could be fitted with a fan and one could not. The website was confusing. Ordered a thermostat to go with the stove and it came without the wires for installing it. Still don't have that figured out yet.
