Triple wall air-cooled chimney is far less common than it used to be. Modern stoves don't draft well in the cooler triple-wall chimneys. A double or triple wall chimney with insulation is the current standard.

Class A can be painted with High heat (1200+) paint. If the stove has a flue collar you would have to either use a small section (~6 inch min) of stove pipe and transition to the Class A or use an anchor plate if it does not have a flue collar.

It's always better for draft to overshoot it, so going with 24" lengths wouldn't be a bad idea. One thing to think about, however, is that with the Superior pipe, you're going to lose 1.5" at the connection point, so if you're measuring at the seam and getting 17", it is likely that what you're looking to replace is an 18" section.

The components are specifically tested and listed to ensure safe operation of the appliance. Many brands of fireplaces use proprietary chimney components that cannot be swapped with other brands. If you happen to have an existing fireplace that is the same brand as the new appliance and the chimney system is in good condition, there is a possibility that it can be used with your new appliance. The approved chimney type list in the owner's literature can be used to verify this. In most cases, the chimney will not be a match and a completely new system must be installed. Several of the manufacturers we carry utilize a twist lock connection which is very easy to disassemble. However, the snap lock style pipe offered by others can be a task to separate once two lengths have been snapped together. To disassemble a snap lock style pipe, usually a flat head screw driver is needed to be wedged at each lance to disengage the sections from one another. This process can very easily damage the connections, as such, I would recommend carefully planning the installation before the pipes are assembled to one another.
