Is there a way to attach this to a pole to do ceilings and high areas?

There is no tool specifically designed to attach the sponge to.

Can I use this sponge to remove soot from wood flooring?

This product can indeed be used to remove soot from all surfaces, including wood flooring. Depending on how porous and dense your flooring is, it may have absorbed some of the soot. As such, the eraser may not completely remove the staining.
