Those are the measurements of the screen widths.  The flange is 1 1/2 inches wide. 

This product mounts to the top of the chimney using masonry screws/anchors.  It is best to take the flange width of 1.25" into consideration when ordering.

They are available in galvanized painted black caps.  A painted cap galvanized cap will rust.  If used with a wood-burning appliance, the paint will fail faster.

This is optional for attaching the mounting strips to the crown of the chimney (in addition to the masonry anchors being installed through the pre-drilled holes).

Though it is hard to see, there is a mounting strip inside the screens of this cap. The strip can also flip to the outside of the screens if preferred. The 2-1/2" or 4" overhang option refers to the projection of the lid over the screens on each side.

As with any chimney cap, there is no way to completely seal it to prevent any rain intrusion. For maximum protection on this cap, we would recommend the California mesh option, which is a tighter 5/8-inch mesh screen. 

Yes, we do have powder coating in various colors and several hip lid pitches you can select from.

The dimensions you select on this page are the screen-to-screen size, inside dimensions.  You have the option of selecting a 2.5-inch or 4-inch overhang for the lid in addition to these dimensions.

Typically, the minimum distance from the top of the flue(s) to the lid of a cap would be 4 inches, though 6 would be recommended.

Unfortunately, this cap does not have specific wind ratings.

These are made of stainless steel.

This cap mounts to the surface of the chimney crown in between the outer diameter of the crown and the outer diameter of the terracotta flue that protrudes from your chimney and the lid can indeed be removed to install the cap with the swing tabs positioned inwards. The cap should be set in position for test fitment first. You should then mark several mounting points on the concrete wash through the perforations. Your mounting points should be evenly spaced and I recommend two anchor points on the long side of the cap and one on the ends. The cap should then be set aside and a hammer drill with a masonry bit should be used to drill into the wash. You can then installed plastic anchors and set the cap back in position over them. You will then need to run anchor screws through the strips and into the anchors you installed.

The top has 4 bolts. One in each corner that can be removed. The flaps are piano hinged and can be folded inside or outside.

Yes, it is shipped without the top attached. You attach it to the chimney using holes in the flange inside and then attach the top using the 4 bolts you can see in the picture.

This cap is designed to be mounted to the concrete wash at the top of the chimney, rather than the flue tile itself. You must drill into the concrete and install screws through the metal swingtabs that are attached to the perimeter of the cap. For cleaning, the lid can be quickly removed by unbolting the cap screws that hold it in place.

The lid of the cap is 24 gauge, and the mesh is 18 gauge.

The 3/4" swing tabs are reversible to allow for inside or outside mounting.
