Why should I not use this with gas logs?
    1 Answer
The main reason these are not recommended is due to the safety liabilities involved with gas logs. Top mounted dampers are easy to forget about and if the log set is operated with the damper closed, harmful byproducts can back up into the home. In the event of a wood fire, the smoke would serve as a visual reminder if the damper is forgotten about, however you would not be able to detect the carbon monoxide in the air from a gas log set.

    Worthy Investment
Our old chimney had a built-in damper that had been broken for years. As a result, cold air was allowed to enter the house via the chimney, and our entire home was always freezing in the winter. Once I realized it was broken, I did some research and realized I could install a top-side damper.
The install was pretty straightforward. Since the Lock-Top Damper was installed, I've noticed the house has been significantly warmer, ever without using the fireplace or the furnace. I would highly recommend this product.
Simple installation (with the proper tools) Prevents birds/pests, rain, cold air from entering the house via chimney when damper is closed Easy to open/close damper It's a bit expensive (but it's worth it) When it's open, birds/pests can enter via chimney (there is no screen like the more expensive dampers)

    Easy and effective
My old damper was aging making my living room drafty. The new damper glued with the included silicone extremely easily. The damper pulls down and seals tight and is quick to spring open when you want it to. No more drafty living room.
Easy install Product description did not mention if the lid is removable for sweeping.

    Easy installation!
The damper itself went on easily. I used a wire brush to clean some soot/creosote off of the clay flue liner and then used the supplied silicone to lay a bead around the entire circumference of the liner. Use the whole tube, don't skimp. If it looks like you used too much it's probably just right. After uncoiling the cable and dropping it down the flue just set the damper in place. Line it up so it's square and even and give it a push to settle it into the silicone. Take a break, wait a day and then finish the job inside the firebox.

A note on uncoiling the cable: get it uncoiled at the start of the process. Mine got into a tangle while I was on the roof so I had to sit down and get the loops undone. Added a few minutes to the whole process and was a bit frustrating. You don't need to be frustrated while on your roof.

My only concern is the longevity of the silicone holding the damper to the flue liner. Time will tell.

I think it will be a good addition to my fireplace.
Easy installation. Good instructions. Looked to be well made. The 30 foot cable got tangled up. How long will the silicone adhesive last.

    Good product. Arrived as expected.
The chimney damper arrived as expected. I appreciate the timeliness of getting a 2nd damper shipped out when UPS contacted me to say the first one was damaged in transit.

    Thank you.
