How does this connect to the cable to open and close the damper?
There is a predrilled hole that allows the cable or chain to be routed and attached to the handle, with the handle assembly itself securing to the firebox interior. The handle swivels downward by using the supplied extension to pivot it, opening the damper.

Works Great
This was extremely easy to install, and very easy to operate. The removable extension handle means you won't have to reach inside the firebox, and you won't get soot on your hands.
Cons
It could be improved with a graduated set of stops to control the airflow, and a longer removable handle made of metal to adjust the airflow when the fire burns down.
