In the image there is a ring at the top... is this permanently attached to the pipe? Can this be removed?
The trim collar can be removed. It is recommended to remove collar when attaching to DuraTech Premium pipe.

Hi. Can I connect DuraBlack single wall and DVL double-wall through a DuraPlus ceiling support box?
You can only use either the DuraBlack or DVL from the stove to the bottom of the support box and you can't mix them. You will have to use the DuraPlus chimney pipe from inside the support box and all the way up and out. You will also need an adapter to go from the black connector pipe to the bottom of the support box.

No, If a shorter length is needed a smaller section of pipe should be used.

Limited usefulness with 8-foot ceilings
This Dura Vent telescoping stovepipe works great if you have a straight shot from the wood stove to the chimney support box. However, if the installation requires a couple of elbows between the wood stove and the chimney box, then this stove pipe is too long even when fully contracted. My installation involves a wood stove sitting on a brick hearth base that is about 12-inches above the floor. My house as an 8-foot ceiling. I could not position the flue of the wood stove perfectly inline with the chimney support box, because I have a fresh air supply vent that comes up through the hearth base, and the stove needs to be located over it to draw in the air through its pedestal. Unfortunately, I could not locate the chimney support box inline with the fresh air pipe due to the location of the ceiling joists. Therefore, I needed two Dura Vent 90-degree elbows that have joints I could rotate to make into 45-degree elbows. This provided the offset needed to locate the stove over the fresh air vent, and then be able to connect to the chimney support box. Due to length of the two 45-degree elbows, the telescoping stove pipe is now too long. It contracts down to 44 inches, but I needed it down to about 30 inches.I tried to cut 6 inches off of the inner pipe and the outer pipe carefully and slowly with a hacksaw, but just did not look good with the metal burrs and scratched paint. So, I disassembled everything, and purchased a Dura Vent 6-inch stove pipe kit, 6DBK-KSP, which has a shorter version of the telescoping stove pipe mentioned above. This telescoping pipe is only about 24 inches long fully contracted, and comes with a second 24 inch length of pipe, which I did not need. After much hassle and fuss, I have completed the stove pipe connection without any cutting, and looks fairly good.
Pros
Convenient and easy solution to fitting stove pipe without cutting, provided you have enough height and no elbows involved.
Cons
This telescoping pipe could be modified by cutting the inner and outer pipe to fit in sections shorter than 44 inches, but it will not look good. Also, it can be difficult to install if you have an elbow or two in the run, since you will need someone to hold the elbow combination up into the chimney support box, while you extend the telescoping pipe up to the elbow, while trying to hold it there until drilling screw holes and installing screws to hold it in place. If you have a straight run from the wood stove to the chimney support box, then it is fairly easy to hold the female end of the telescoping pipe up into the chimney support box by the trim collar while drilling and installing the screws through the collar to hold the extending pipe in place. Unfortunately, I had to waste $132 on the wrong product!
