In what instance would I need to use a mortar sleeve like this DuraFlex SS 6-ft. Mortar Sleeve for 4 Inch Chimney Liners? The flexible stainless steel chimney liner that was installed in my home was a different brand but the I failed the hot water heater inspection because the liner was missing a mortar sleeve. This one piece liner goes through the existing chimney space concrete block wall and is fiberglass insulated and is one piece. I'm just baffled on all of what the inspector is making us do. Can you shed some light on the subject?

We did also receive your message regarding the HomeSaver liner kit. Per your description, it sounds like there is no concern with clearance to combustibles or any other proximity issues. In reading back over the installation manual for the DuraFlex liner, it certainly appears that the mortar sleeve is optional. In the case of your local inspector, they may simply want the sleeve to be mortared in place to ensure for an air tight installation. As mortaring in the sleeve will prevent air from passing between the sleeve and brick wall.

The first set I got was pretty disappointing. I did the installation as prescribed, but had trouble when I went out to test them out. After a few miles I found that one did not have the carbide tip anymore. It must have fallen off during use. The other disappeared on the ride home. I got new ones on the warranty, and I hope they end up working better for me.

    Keeps the Temperature Down Great
I?m so happy with the manufacture of this product. I used to have trouble with overheating on my sled when I tried to do a longer ride. But with these I can go for a long time without having to worry about heat. Before I had to take breaks and even pull off into a bank to keep the temperature from going too high, but not anymore.
