Will this Dura-Vent DirectVent Pro heat-shielding vinyl siding standoff work with the external vent: Dura-Vent DirectVent Pro Horizontal Aluminum High-Wind Vent Rain Cap - For Vent Pipes with a 4-Inch Inner Diameter - 46DVA-HC? Is it an exact fit?
    1 Answers
This standoff is indeed an exact fit to the 46DVA-HC and is made specifically for use with it.

Is this shield required for a normal vinyl siding installation?
    1 Answers
It is. Temperatures from the vent termination are high enough that the standoff is required. Otherwise, hot exhaust can waft back against the siding and cause it to deform.

If I use this shield, then I don't need to cut off the vinyl siding on the house other than the hole?
    1 Answers
That is correct. However, for the best appearance, it is recommended to cut the siding to the dimensions of the standoff and to finish the edges with a vinyl trim. This is due to the difficulty encountered with sealing the edges of the standoff if it is sitting on top of the siding.

    Necessary Purchase
This piece was really important to the vent of my direct-vent gas fireplace as it exits horizontally through vinyl siding. Although it wasn't included in the installation kit for my fireplace, I found it to be necessary to prevent water from coming inside the vent.

Our house has wood siding and this part worked well and is compatible with our vents.
