Can this termination cap be spray-painted white to match the vinyl siding?
    1 Answer
The cap would need to be cleaned with mineral spirits to remove any oils from the manufacturing process. Then you would need to use high-temperature paint rated 1200 to 1500 degrees for the best chance of a long-lasting finish. Please note that this cap requires a vinyl siding shield when installed near the siding. You can see that part here.

When installing on Hardie board, does this need a shield?
    1 Answer
No, it would not. It would only require a shield if it was surrounded by combustible siding, such as vinyl or wood.

Can I use this vent on stucco?  Will the vent let air in thru the cap and allow enough air to my fireplace?
    1 Answer
This cap can be used on stucco. Also, you should use only the components listed for your fireplace. If your fireplace is listed for Dura-vent direct vent 46DVA vent pipe then this will provide enough air.

Is there a vent baffle that can be put around the direct horizontal vent to stop black soot from forming on the dwelling wall?

    1 Answer
If the exterior wall surface is vinyl siding and no vinyl siding standoff is installed, this would be a potential cause. Another potential cause would be the improper placement of the logs or an improper air shutter adjustment resulting in a dirty burn. If the flame is tall, mostly yellow and lazy with black tipping, the air shutter needs to be moved to a more open position to allow more primary air into the combustion process. This could also be the result of a lack of cleaning or maintenance over time. In any case, no one part will correct this issue without eliminating other potential causes first, so I recommend contacting a local technician for a thorough inspection and diagnosis.

    Alex M
    from Toronto, ON asked:
    September 20, 2019
Can the the 46DVA-HC be installed from the outside without pulling the fire place unit out?
    1 Answer
The 46DVA-HC is the horizontal termination only, so it works in conjunction with another pipe length of the 46DVA pipe, usually installed through a wall thimble.  If a 46DVA pipe is in the appropriate place, yes, this termination can be theoretically installed without disturbing the fireplace.

    Trina Z

    July 9, 2019
When installing this termination cap on vinyl siding, do I need a wall thimble or just one wall fire stop?
    1 Answer
You will need a wall firestop or thimble (not both), a vinyl siding shield and this termination cap.

    Gene
    from Steamboat, CO asked:
    October 10, 2013
Will this cap work with 4 inch inner/ 7 inch outer direct vent flex pipe?
    1 Answer
Because this cap has twist lock ends, rather than tapered ends that a flex termination uses, I do not recommend using it with a flexible liner.
